OSCON 2006 Call for Participation
...lly Open Source Convention has been posted. It''s included below, and you can find it online here: http://conferences.oreillynet.com/os2006/ The conference is July 24-28, and the deadline for submissions is February 13. Early submissions help! In 2005, Ruby built huge momentum at OSCON; all of the Ruby tutorials and talks were packed, and many of the keynotes mentioned Ruby and Rails. This year we want to build on that momentum -- with lots of Rails goodness, of course, but also showcasing the many other cool things that people are doing with Ruby. Please submit your pr...

Asterisk at OSCON?
Following up on some posts here a few weeks ago about a gathering of Asterisk geeks at the upcoming OSCON in Portland. There are a bunch of tentative-sounding "We ought to meet heres" and the like. Is it appropriate to try to set things up a bit more specifically at this point? Thx. B.

Dovecot in OSCON 2009?
Hi, I'm thinking about attending OSCON 2009 with some other people from Mailtrust and having some kind of an informal Dovecot meeting nearby. We could for example talk about what Dovecot would need to work better in your system, like missing features or if some things are annoyingly difficult etc, or just general talking and soc...

Minimal Kickstart setups to use with Puppet
Hi, I was at the Puppet talk at Oscon and I would like to try using Puppet for PXE on RHEL machines and I was wondering if there are standard minimal Kickstart recipes from which Puppet can then take over. Thanks, Jason van Zyl jason at maven.org

PHP probes
Hi all, I remember at OSCON 2005 there was talk of adding DTrace probes to PHP (in fact, I have a photo of Bryan and Wes working on it!). Did they ever get into the upstream branch, ''cause I don''t recall seeing a --enable-dtrace (or similar) configuration option when I recently built PHP 5.2.1. If not, is t...

win32-ipc question
...couple questions, though. First, what does one do with an IPC object? I originally thought this would be a module that you mixed in but it appears to be a class. Second, does anyone have a good example of how to use win32-event (using the CVS version)? I could really use a good example for OSCON. :) Dan _________________________________________________________________ Is your PC infected? Client/server test harness - Crucible 1.6
...ase of Crucible; I've attached the release notice below. The OLS presentation on NFSv4 testing is available here: http://developer.osdl.org/dev/nfsv4/site/documentation/OLS06.OSDL.v09.odp however it is mainly presenting results and mentions the framework only briefly; the talk I gave at OSCON about using Crucible with Xen is probably a better overview: http://crucible.sourceforge.net/docs/oscon_2006.pdf Briefly, Crucible is a collection of bash and perl tools (originally inspired by the Samba build farm, in fact) for patching/booting kernels on multiple machines and coordinating t...

CentOS Summit?
...each other, share stories, exchange ideas, provide support and friendship, and come up with even better ideas for the future. If there is sufficient interest, I would be willing to help organize. Perhaps an event could be held around the same time as other relevant conferences such as LinuxCon or OSCon. Let me know your thoughts. Kay Williams kay at thewilliams.net P.S. By way of background, I have been working with CentOS since the early days, but prior to that I worked at Microsoft for many years where it was often my role to organize and present at technology summits. I am sure we can come...

Suggestions for web site
Hi there, The links to the documentation of Puppet in the right side of the page seems to be ordered alphabetically, I find confusing to access the documentation using the current menu. I think it would make sense to order them according to some "natural" order for reading it. I mean, maybe it should be something like Index, Introduction, Installation, Language Tutorial... Invoking R from PHP/Mysql environment
We have a setup in which we use PHP (with Geeklog as a CMS) as a front end to MySQL. We plan to use R for offering user driven and automated statistical analysis of some of the data we obtain. We'll be using the R interface to the MySQL database from omegahat (www.omegahat.org) for getting the data out of the database, but we were wondering if somebody tackled the problem of how to integrate

Best practise guide
Hi, I''m a new puppet user (thanks !) and I''m just looking at moving my homegrown manifest structure into something resembling the best practise guide at : http://www.reductivelabs.com/trac/puppet/wiki/PuppetBestPractice. It seems as if the structure here doesn''t map to the default puppet layout (and thus doesn''t work with the standard puppet config
