About the article OS_Protection by JimPerrin
Evolution (aka JimPerrin - or is this the other way around?) has been working on this excellent wiki article: http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/OS_Protection However, the discussion is taking place at his own blog site http://www.bofh-hunter.com/ . Because this is a CentOS wiki article, I just wonder why we cannot do it here. Sure, his blog site may collect a wider audience, but we traditionally deals with all CentOS wiki articles on this mailing...

Wiki Update - Aide Link
Hello All, My username is MikeThompson The link to configure Aide at the bottom of this page: https://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/OS_Protection Is dead, and says its dead, however, the old link to http://www.bofh-hunter.com/2008/04/10/centos-5-and-aide/ now redirects to a malicious website. One of my less than savvy users got his windows machine infected there last night. I'm wondering if it makes sense to change the link to poin...

Well, I wasn't a member of this list until today
But I guess with Akemi dragging me out over the OS_Protection page, I'm a member now :-P I've got no problem discussing it or other changes here. I set it up on my blog mostly because there wasn't a way to have comments on the page, and I didn't want to open the wiki page up to editing by outside sources right away. -- During times of un...

OS Hardening typo?
Hi all; On OS Hardening ( http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/OS_Protection ) there's a section on "Physical Protection" that includes requiring a single-user mode password. There's four lines that look something like this: echo "Require the root pw when booting into single user mode" >> /etc/inittab echo "~~:S:wait:/sbin/sulogin&...

The AIDE section of the Hardening CentOS wiki page
...as I'm not the original creator of the page. The broken link is to a section of the blog of Jim "Evolution" Perrin. Are you still around Jim? If so, will you please fix it. :-) Alan. ------------------------ Original Message ------------------------ http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/OS_Protection#head-474ca0c239384376ca6de28a5937a8de8a9d6235 points to a broken link (On AIDE). Can you flesh your version out or put up a cached version of the dead link? Thanks! -Mike

Proposal for a new page - NFS port locking
G'day Further to a little discussion on #centos-social IRC, I'd like to put together a wiki page that describes the steps required to lock-down the ports used by NFS. I expect it'll be quite short, with details on which NFS related config files to edit and a short iptables excerpt that covers the relevant ports to allow. I'm thinking this could go under HowTos -> Security?

securing centos 5.2 for public usage
Dear all, i Just finished setting up an apache service on a centos 5.2 VM machine. i need to secure this machine as i'm soon to be setting a public IP over it where i'd be opening up the following services: 1. http 2. https 3. ssh Things i've done so far: 1. stopped root ssh access in sshd.conf 2. tried configuring PAM so i get a more secure ssh passwords (dictionary wise) as
