Request for Comments: Interoperability Paper
To save posting a large text document to the list, here's the
paper in html on a public web site:
http://www.geocities.com/orville_torpid/papers/interoperability.html
The paper is nominally about PC NetLink (I work of Sun),
but it's really about the interoperability of most of the
current SMB programs.
Comments, suggestions and brickbats happily accepted!

SAMBA subnetting (performance and disconnects)
...poll client
connections every 30 seconds to make sure they
haven't gone away. If they have, Samba will clean
up, report an unexpected disconnect in the logs
and update the smbstatus program.
Next you have to find out why the clients are
disconnecting: please see
http://www.geocities.com/orville_torpid/papers/ethernet-note.txt
for some hints on diagnosis.
