NIS+ trouble
...o samba now - but having a heck of a time
getting authentication to work. I'm running NIS+, configured samba
with --with-nisplus --with-nisplus-home and --with-automount.
Does anyone have some good nis/samba references? I'm striking
out.
The smbpasswd file *does* have to become smbpasswd.org_dir for
samba to work. I first created the smbpasswd file using
niscat passwd.org_dir | mksmbpasswd.sh which created smbpasswd.
I ran mknissmbpwdtbl.sh to make the nis+ table, then cat'd
smbpasswd through mknissmbpasswd.sh to populate the nis+
table smbpasswd.org_dir.

Linux/NIS+
Hello,
I'm having a problem configuring samba (2.0.5a) on a Linux
system using NIS+ as the password system. Samba complains that
it cannot find the smbpasswd file, which is not surprising as
I'm not using one. I tried 'smb password file = passwd.org_dir'
that sort of worked, except that it creates a directory called
passwd.org_dir from whatever directory I ran the smbd from.
However, it still can't find any users.
Obviously, I'm missing a concept here. Any hints? Basically, I
do not want to use a smbpasswd file (too much of a pain...

I'm pretty confused at this point. When it says "NIS+ lookup failure:
Database for table does not exist" is it complaining it doesn't
find my regular unix database (password.org_dir) - or do I have
to make an NIS+ table for the smbpasswd file (smbpasswd.org_dir). I'm
not finding much in the way of docs on this specifically. I need
to get past this to get on with the rest of the connections and
printing stuff.

...update encrypted = Yes" set so that the current SMB encrypted passwords
can be updated as people connect to file services over the next couple
of weeks.
I've used mknissmbpwdtbl.sh, and edited mknissmbpasswd.sh to change gcos
to full_name and home to home_dir, then populated the smbpasswd.org_dir
directory from passwd.org_dir using mknissmbpasswd.sh.
The problem I now have is that when I run "smbpasswd username" to change
a users encrypted password I get the following error message.

NIS+ support in samba....
Hi all,
I know this has probably been spoke about before, but I'm looking for some
documentation or other info on setting up NIS+ with samba.... I currently
have samba running on the NIS+ master, but am having trouble setting up
authentication again the NIS+ passwd tables. I'm also not exactly sure
where smbpasswd comes into play with NIS+ and if I actually need to run
that everytime I

netbios-ns failing (looping)
Hello everybody,
I installed samba 3.0.1 on a solaris 8 and I don't understand the message
in /var/adm/messages
... netbios-ns/udp server failing (looping) service terminated
The command niscat services.org_dir returns
netbios-ns netbios-ns tcp 137 netbios name service
netbios-ns netbios-ns udp 137 netbois name service
Any ideas

Samba and NIS+ (lengthy desperate plea)
...e latest CVS sources. Unfortunately, when compiling them
--with-nisplus I got a linker error (with a slew of nisplus_initialize_*
functions) and quickly gave up. Then I noticed in the CVS source's script
directory there was a mknissmbpwdtbl.sh. After running it, I now have an
empty smbpasswd.org_dir table. I thought this might fix my smbpasswd
problem, but it didn't. I also ran the mknissmbpasswd.sh script, but it
referenced some field called gcos that the table creation script didn't
make. Since these sources were from CVS I didn't give too much thought --
CVS is broken a lot,...

newbie desperate for help
I just installed Samba for the first time. Installed and setup like a dream. Unfortunately, I can't login to save my life. The server appears in the Net. Neighborhood, but when I double-click to login, the login window give the following message:

First I ran mknissmbpasswd.sh:

via SWAT and still received a message "Failed to add entry for user ....".
Maybe "smbpasswd" is trying to look for the user's Unix account info. from
the default /etc/passwd file. In NIS+, this is not used - what is used is
the "passwd.org_dir' table. It appears that Samba and NIS+ are not talking
to each other. Therefore my question is....is there a way of "pre-defining"
where I want "smbpasswd" to pull this information? I understand that
"nisplus" is no longer supported, but that is what I have to use...

Can anyone who is using the same type (or similar) of OS/environment, give
me some advice on how to make "smbpasswd" work?
