Rails 4.0 Example app
Hi All, I have 30 years as a self employed software engineer and have been experimenting with rails for several years but !! I would have made considerably more progress and been able to give back to the community if only there was a demo application that was released with each new rails release. I am sure that it would take no more than 15 minutes of someone within the core team to produce

Desktop Choice Centos 4/Centos 5 or Fedora 9
I have a choice of CentOS 4/5 and Fedora 9 on a laptop. I have not use CentOS 5 on a desktop but have used CentOS 4 and Fedora 9. I found the Fedora Gnome not as appealing as the CentOS 4 clearlooks. Any opinions from someone who has used CentOS 4/5 and Fedora? I'm not a KDE fan so KDE users need not reply. Regards, Vandaman.

Overriding ActiveRecord associations for special cases
Hi, Does anyone know a good way to override AR associations to take special cases into account. My current take is the example below which allows the ''root'' user to access all products, but only works if I remember to call it with a .all/.find or similar method: ''user.products.all'' instead of ''user.products''. Ideally I guess I want to return a

acts_as_ferret with conditions
Hello guys, Having a slight problem with acts_as_ferret, specifically using a condition. I have the following code @results = SupplierProduct.find_by_contents(params [:search], :conditions => [''area_id = ?'', @area]) and it seems the condition isn''t being applied. Does anyone have any pointers? Cheers, Alastair ------ Alastair Moore Standards compliant web

Call AR belongs_to association accessor ID method on object assignment
Hi, Haven''t been able to find this raised before but I''m sure it must have been. When assigning an object to a belongs_to association I would like it to call the *association*_id= method instead of directly updating the attributes array. This is because I want to modify the behaviour when assigning a particular object without writing separate methods for whether it''s

my tests seem to imply that << forces an insert of the parent and child records in a has_many relationship when both are newly created objects. for example, Controller code: xy=XY.new pc=PC.new xy.addPC(pc) Model code: Class XY < ActiveRecord.... def addPC(pc) self.controls<<pc end end where XY has a "has_many" association with PC and PC has a

Attachment_fu and observers/emailing
Hi all, I''m developing a site where a user can upload their CV/resume with a profile, and am using restful_authentication for this with attachment_fu to handle the file uploading. When a user creates their profile/user account, I''ve got an observer that will email the site admin with a copy of the uploaded CV. My user_observer looks something like: class UserObserver <

Searching multiple related models
Hi, I''m interested in some feedback about a solution for searching multiple related models by columns (as opposed to full-text). A brief example would be three models with typical has_many relations: Hotel (name, company) Room (number, type) Bed (type, age) I have a search form that lists the fields for each model with a text input. Upon submission the search needs to find the results

order of saving/validating
Hi guys, I''m trying to do some validation on an image upload. Basically I have a model, Property, which has_many :property_images. I need to check that one image has been uploaded at least and so it was suggested I checked the number of images uploaded - @property.property_images.count > 0. Makes sense. I''ve added a validation on my Property model, like - def
