Optimum online-upload throttling confirmed.
Hello All, I was recently fighting with an optimum online connection in NY. I finally got in touch with someone that confirmed they are throttling my upload connection. I just wanted to make everyone aware of it, so if you have problems if your ping times jump erratically, this could be the cause. Their suggestions were, although you can upload...

Data handling/optimum glm method.
...to crash or die when I run "glm" on anything greater than a 5-way saturated model for my data. My first question: is the best way to fit a generalised linear model in R to fit the saturated model and extract the significant terms only, or to start at the null model and to work up to the optimum one? I am importing a csv file with 3500 rows and 27 columns (3500x27 matrix). My second question: is there anyway to increase the memory I have so R can cope with more analysis? I can send my code if it would help to answer the question. Kind regards, AJC Sent from my BlackBerry smartphone f...

Request: Optimum value of cost complexity parameter "k" in "tree" package
Dear R community I have a question regarding the value of cost complexity parameter "k" used in "tree" package for pruning purpose. Any help in finding the optimum value of "k" is requested. Please give some suggestion in this regard. In the example below i used k=0 but i don't know why? But if i use k=NULL, then it will not plot the resultant tree. library(tree) ds=iris; iris=transform(iris, Species = factor(Species, labels = letters[1:3]))...

Is 4k the optimum block size considering the amount of writes / second the application performs ? 2. How do i find out the optimum block size given the application load in terms of reads / writes per second ? 3. If there is a better block size that i can use , Can you suggest one ? 4. What are the pros / Cons o...

FXO port trhoug optimum voice VOIP service
...at this time - When I plug the x100p to the phone jack, the dial tone in all of my phones die. Because of the later I'm suspecting that there is some problem with the signaling or voltage detection. My PSTN line is actually from a VoIP modem that runs over the Cablevision network (known as Optimum Voice). Thanks everyone. Carlos __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Effectively using a telco Type 102 Milliwatt Test line with ztmon itor -v to set txgain/rxgain in zapata?
I am trying to obtain optimum gain settings for a bank of analog lines connected to a channel bank. My telco has provided a 'Type 102' test line to use for incoming level calibration. This is functionally equivalent to app Milliwatt(), but provides tone from the CO inwards. Question is, how should one use this a 0dbm t...

request for optimum setup configuration
hi, I am required to take text/doc files uploaded to a share/directory in a static ip, do some processing on this queue, convert the file format and save the results in a directory for it to be downloaded (or I could upload the same to another share/folder in another static ip). volume of files is about 1-5 files/second of about 50KB to 100KB each and the converting and delivery has to be in

OT: Optimum voice problems.
I'm trying to figure out if I'm the only one with these problems with them. I recently had a few customers that switched to them because of the price, of course that means that they have to use FXO ports, but it is realy cheaper, so customers don't really care. In any case, there are 2 issues that I can't get solved, and they are not interested in helping. 1. When they tell you

convergence in polr
...er=-Inf, upper=Inf) when returning a warning message of singularity means that the optimization algorithm thinks it can't make any further progress because it has too many degrees of freedom. It usually means that the objective function is either not differentiable, or it may not have an optimum. So for my data an optimum can't be obtained. Is this true? Can I ignore this warning message since what I want to find is values for the boundaries? Will the values for the boundaries be accurate even though I get the warning message?

Inquiry:What is the equivalent of "ping -f -l" on the CentOS server?
Dear All To find the optimum MTU size , on the MS Windows client , we need to try for "C:\ping www.google.com -f -l 1472" and then do for trial and error to find the optimum size . Can you please do me favor and let me know what is the equivalent of "ping -f -l" on the CentOS server ? Let me thank you in ad...

Constrined dependent optimization.
...l in it numbered from 1 to 100. Each bin can only hold one ball. This optimization is that I have a function 'f' that this array of bins and returns a number. The number returned from f(1,2,3,4....) would return a different number from that of f(2,1,3,4....). The optimization is finding the optimum order of these balls so as to produce a minimum value from 'f'.I cannot use the regular 'optim' algorithms because a) the values are discrete, and b) the values are dependent ie. when the "variable" representing the bin location is changed (in this example a new ball is pu...

But I don't know how to assign the right predictions to these labels. BTW, Is there a way of finding the optimum in the curve? I mean to find the exact value in the ROC curve (see sheet 2 in the excel file for the ROC curve). I would like to thank for any help in advance Assa

positive log likelihood and BIC values from mCLUST analysis
...ihood is 127.3786 . Four clusters are found. There are several things that I do not understand: (1) How can log likelihood be a positive number? (2) Why should simply scaling the data change the BIC and log likelihood values? (3) Perhaps most important, why should scaling the data change the optimum model and the number of clusters? To explore the effects of scaling the data I further scaled it by multiplying the normalized caluesby 10, by 1E4 and by 1E14. The larger the values the more negative were the BIC and log likelihood values, and the optimum model and number of clusters changed wit...
