user_global_uid - tricky to set
Hola! Dovecot should serve virtual mail users. So I've set user_global_uid and user_global_gid in dovecot_ldap.conf to vmail/vmail. Also I've commented auth the user_attrs field. Still Dovecot tries to switch to the uid that is defined in the LDAP entry. It took me some time to figure out, that the only way to prevent this is to set user_attrs = foo=uid, bar=gid or something like this,

Non-Executable Stack Patch
I was wondering if there's any non-executable stack patch for FreeBSD's kernel. I searched in google but all I got was some questions in freebsd-security back from 2001 and an answer saying someone heard about a project like this, but no information at all. Is there any patch like PaX or Openwall available for FreeBSD? I dont want to discuss if its useless or not since there're a

envi clone in R
Hello all, Research Systems (www.rsinc.com) have developed and distributes the language IDL, and the GIS ENVI, written in IDL. To my oppinion, R language is superior, compared to IDL, in all aspects. However, ENVI is the rather convenient and feature rich tool. Is anyone aware about any work, dedicated to the creation of something, similar to the ENVI, but in R? Also, recently,

IAXy and Private IP
...Public IP (IAXy)--------(ISP LAN)-----------((Internet))-----(Asterisk Server) This setup can cause any problems to the comunication process? I'm aware that the IAX2 protocol is NAT friendly so I think this will work, but to be sure I want to hear some oppinions. Thanks for all, Raul.

how to separate virtual delivery and authentication?
I have a "pure ldap" setting with postfix and dovecot. When using dovecot delivery, the recipient is checked via ldap. The same ldap query is used when authenticate. So, if I want to authenticate with the uid , I can't use a filter like uid=%u because the delivery will fail. I don't want to use %nor something else because I could use multiple e-mail addresses on a single

I need to make some comment on WineTools
I just red the article on the website about winetools. This is controversy is a non starter in my oppinion. I believe that something like winetools should be included in the wine distribution to begin with. It should be something under the control of the developers themselves and bug reports should be added to fix any problems. Why did it take someone outside of the wine development team to

assignments to function return values
colnames(m) = c("a", "b") I am fairly new to R and trying to understand this language. Having learned quite a few other programming languages the above statement when i saw it first immediately led to two reactions: (1) wtf? (2) maybe they made the function return an object with overloaded assignment operator, lets try this: x = colnames(m) x =

scaler plugin fixes
Hi I think this is mostly a question of preference for my part, but I think it would give an overall better quality feel. What I'm talking about is mostly the movement it uses. As I've come to understand, it uses velocity and direction, and a target point. This means that it updates it velocity and direction every X seconds (timestep), and gives it the possibility to be

Very Fast Multivariate Kernel Density Estimation
One of the real advances (in my humble oppinion of course) of 2003 is the Very Fast Multivariate Kernel Density Estimation algorithm by Alex Gray which achieves several order of speed improvement by using Computational Geometry to organize the data. The algorithm is now implemented in C++ with Mathlab interface by Alexander Ihler of MIT: http://ssg.mit.edu/~ihler/code/kde.shtml I wondered if a

dovecot-sasl license
hi, i talked to timo about re-licensing the sasl part of dovecot under a more liberal license (bsd/lgpl e.g.). it would allow the integration of it in bsd base systems. another reason i would be interested is adding sasl support to svnserve [1]. so here is my question: what is your oppinion about this issue? any objections from contributors? darix [1] http://subversion.tigris.org/ -- irssi
