Oplock break failed on sysvol share
Hi team! Samba 4.1.11 on Debian Wheezy here, configured as a DC. I recently started noticing long startup times for the Windows clients, whenever multiple clients are started at the same time. For example, at 8:00 AM (when around 30 PCs get started simoultaneously, I get this in smbd.log: ### [2014/09/16 08:01:21.320944, 0] ../source3/smbd/oplock.c:335(oplock_timeout_handler) Oplock break

SOLVED - Oplocks not taking place at all unless fake oplocks = yes
The kernel on my server appears to be refusing oplocks altogether. Setting 'kernel oplocks = no' resolved the issue. ok, so oplocks: good or bad?
I have been searching for info on this and haven't found an authoritative answer. From what I have read, oplocks are good because they increase connection speeds, but they are bad because they don't really work, but they actually do work, but they only work in some cases, etc etc. so, here's my problem and my question together: I get tons of these messages every day (over a thousand a day) [2003/06/...

2.0.7: unsolicited oplock break reply
I've used oplocks = no for a long time now, because of the famous "oplock_break" error, but I decided to give 2.0.7 a try. I still get "oplock break" errors as before, but this time I got a new error too: [2000/05/02 10:04:52, 0] smbd/oplock.c:oplock_break(976) oplock_break: receive_smb timed...

I'm using samba version 2.2.1a on a linux RH7.2 kernel 2.4.7-10. I'm having a lot of oplock problems, specially when using office applications like word. I would like to know: 1. what is the recommended configuration in version 2.2.1a (oplocks = yes/no , level2 oplocks = yes/no , kernel oplocks = yes/no) 2. what is considered to be a stable version for oplocks usage Thanks, Nir

Unsolicited oplock breaks
Dear All, we've been having some intermittent problems with students who's home directories are on a Sun E450 running Samba 2.0.6. I'm not totally convinced that the problem is caused by the server, but may be the network. However, I've had a look at the log.smb file and I'm seeing some error messages that I've not come across before: [2001/02/23 18:20:40, 0]

Exclusive oplock left by process
Hi all, We have a HP-UX 11i server running as a samba server. Users use Windows 2000 boxes with Service Pack 4 to connect to the samba server. Several days ago, we upgraded samba server from 2.0.7 to 3.0.5, and we started to experience the following problem: The general connection and access to the samba server is ok. However, under the samba share there have been some directories mounted from

oplock problems
...c). We found out that these messages correspond with the slow response that our users are seeing. I've searched the samba archive and there are more people having these messages. The solutions I found were : - You may have a netwerk problem ( which is NOT the case in our situation ) - Turn oplocks off ( But this may introduce a performance problem ) Can somebody please explain : - What this message really means. - Can it be related to the slow response that our customers are complaining about - Is there a solution to this probem ( our network is ok, turning oplocks off is not a solution...

Documentation / boolean fix for oplocks = command
In the documentation the "oplocks = yes" option is give in an example, as the default for this parameter. However, I needed to turn oplocks off, and so assumed that the command "oplocks = no" would work. It doesn't, instead I found that "oplocks = false" does. There needs to be some boolean fixing done,...

Samba pdc with ldap & samba3-3.0.25c-34 on CentOS 5
...n CentOS 4 & 5 machines some of which are PDC's but this is the first LDAP deployment. None of the others have exhibited this issue. My Research so far has found plenty of other reports of this kind of issue with no reports of real solution. I have read some documentation that claims OPLOCKS can cause this issue and have tried various config options to disable them. Other documents claim network hardware faults such as cabling or switches and I have already replaced anything that appeared at all suspect. Also just prior to it's retirement the old server was being accessed usi...
