Samba Newbie
I'm in the process of beginning to set up Samba with the aid of the book Special Edition Using Samba. The problem that I have is that I cannot get the service to run. I am using Red Hat 7.2 - kernel 2.4.9-13. I modified the smb.conf file and get the following when running the "testparm" command: Load smb config files from /etc/samba/smb.conf Processing section "[homes]"

too much logging
I'd like to reduce the amount of logging that takes place on my RH 9 smb server, running 2.2.7a. Currently every single file access gets logged, which is way to much for me - I get 2-5Mb daily log files on occasion. Could someone point me in the right direction, please? Thanks. -- Julian.

Crashing Suse 9.2 box - Samba prime suspect
I'm running Suse 9.2, up to date via Yast, samba 3.0.9-2.3, openssh 3.9p1-3.2. Primary use is cvs server with ssh tunnelling pserver from PuTTY. Crash 1: I connected in from home using WSFTP Pro 9.01 in

Still can't write to a Win98 share! PLEASE HELP!
I've posted here with this problem before, and while several people DID try to help, nothing seems to work! Here's the situation (again): I have a Linux box (Mandrake 7.0) running Samba (2.0.6) compiled from source. I can mount/read/write the linux shares just fine, but when trying to write to my Win98 shares (which mount perfectly), I get "permission denied". This only

KDE vs Gnome - oops!
Sorry, wrong list. It was a late night last night ! =============== Hi all, I was using Gnome for a while, and really liked the ability to change desktops by moving the mouse to the edge of the screen I have since changed to KDE - for reasons I can't now remember (!) and would like to know if and how I can achieve the same functionality. I cant find any thing that seems relevant in the
