after lm-fit: equality of two regression coefficients test
Hi
Let's assume, we have a multiple linear regression, such as the one
using the Scottish hills data (MASS, data(hills)):
one dependent variable: time
two independent var (metric): dist, climb
if I am interested, after (!) fitting a lm:
my. lm <- lm(time ~ dist + climb, data = hills)
in the equivalence (or non-equivalence) of the two predictors "dist" and

rpart - predict terminal nodes for new observations
...the terminal node associated with a new data
entry in an rpart environment? In the example below, if I had a new data
entry with an AM of 5, I would like to link it to the terminal node 2. My
searches led to http://tolstoy.newcastle.edu.au/R/e4/help/08/07/17702.html
but I do not seem to be able to operationalize Professor Ripley's
suggestions.
Many thanks.

exiting mclapply early on error
Thanks for the response, Jeremie. I wholeheartedly agree about testing.
In my case, this feature would be used purely to reduce computation time. I?m calculating
an expensive (and embarrassingly parallel) likelihood function, and for some parameter combinations
my objective function diverges to infinity. In those instances, I?d like to throw an error that stops
subsequent computations and that I

Counting a number of "elements" in an object
...ough lmer to get
dummy results and use that number to create the matrix but that doesn't work
because the data frame is large and I run into problems running subsets of
the data frame against lmer, so this wouldn't be a universal solution.
Any help is appreciated. I apologize if I have not operationalized the
question sufficiently.

spatial interaction (gravity) model as Poisson regression
...eaching
a solution, so I now post it here (with some clarifications) in the
hope that someone following this list might have an answer for me:
Has anyone had much experience with spatial interaction (or gravity)
models, specifically in the form of Poisson regression? I'm a bit
unsure of how to operationalize this using glm(), and would appreciate
any pointers from those with more experience. I have searched the
archives extensively, and there are several mentions of this question,
but I have yet to find anything concrete that I can wrap my head
around... apologies if I have missed something.

Robust linear models and unequal variance
Hi all,
I have probably a basic question, but I can't seem to find the answer in
the literature or in the R-archives.
I would like to do a robust ANCOVA (using either rlm or lmRob of the
MASS and robust packages) - my response variable deviates slightly from
normal and I have some "outliers". The data consist of 2 factor
variables and 3-5 covariates (fdepending on the model).
