You should now be running the latest samba distribution. If so, change the
init scripts (/etc/init.d/samba) accordingly.

thanks a lot for your answer. I uninstall old version and install new
version of samba.
now i have this Error when i do this commands:
balalayka:/usr/local/samba/bin # ./smbd -D
balalayka:/usr/local/samba/bin # ./nmbd -D
balalayka:/usr/local/samba/bin # ./smbstatus

do somebody tell me, where i could find information about samba restrictions
compared with
Windows Server.
I' m trying to write a small paper for school, which describe a comarison
between samba and Windows Server.
I heard for example, that 1-Samba is not adapted for great nets?
2-Samba has not a "system management server" like windows?

how i install smba!!

i'm trying to Install a new version of samba (samba-2.2.8a) since tree
days!
i have a Suse linux 8.2 Server and in my Server run alredy samba-2.2.7 (
smbd and nmbd run in /etc/samba)
I 'v installed and configured now samba in the /usr/local/src/samba-2.2.8a/
directory
like this :
./configure --sysconfdir=/etc/samba --localstatedir=/var/log/samba --mandir
=/usr/local/man
