...roup rights from a Samba 4.17.7 domain. It seems the same error described in the following mail trails: "No longer access to shares after upgrade to 4.17.3" "File server joined to a samba domain accessed by windows 10-11 clients, works via ip no via dns name" I've already openend a ticket with Synology. So be careful before updating the SMB-Service, maybe test it first on a not so important system. Regard Ingo -- Regards Ingo https://github.com/WAdama

Office 97 dont open .doc files
...estarted yet) Network of Windows NT 4.0 PCs and one Windows 2000 Server. The Windows NT Workingsations are working fine, but now I have to integrate an Windows 2000 Server and with this Server I have the following problem. When I open an XXXXX.doc-file Office 97 tells me, that the file is already openend by the same User. When I open an XXXXXX.dot-file everything is O.K. And after enabling "fake oplocks" for this share everything is also working fine on XXXXX.doc-Documents. I think I can live with this fake oplocks (hopefully there won't be two users working on the same file), but af...

AW: Why the commotion about file extensions?
...audio or video files. And this is where the problem lies if you use the .ogg extension for both. It would be possible to write a shell extension that examines the files and displays the correct icon, but that would mean that every single file in a directory has to be accessed when the directory is openend - not really feasible from a performance point of view if the directory contains the personal music collection of 1000+ files. I really see only one way to allow the user to differentiate between audio and video files: using a different file extension. At the same time this would solve issues like...

file associations in wine
...t; where kdestart.exe is a link to the following script: #!/bin/bash i=`winepath -u "$*"` kfmclient exec "$i" so now sxw-files open in OpenOffice like I wanted. But now I would like to have a file association to each filetype unknown to wine, so that all these files will be openend with the corresponding KDE programs. I tried: [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*] [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shell] [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shell\open] [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shell\open\command] @="C:\\windows\\command\\start.exe kdestart.exe \"%1\"" because i thought that would be the default file as...

Almost 2000
I'm trying to get this program to function properly with wine. The program is used to calculate the detection levels of a sonar in various conditions. It runs fine, but the File menu is a bit bugged. After i openend a menu item and move over the menu items, the menu hangs. And the weird thing is i can move the main window, which leaves the menu window floating around. I've attached a screen shot of the situation. [Image: http://imgbucket.info/img/0easdby2k/almost.png ] (http://imgbucket.info/?0easdby2k) W...

unable to open passdb database.
I found many questions but no answers on the web. I described my needs in earlier post, but now switched from security = domain to security = server, and designated the AD domain server as the password server. It works as desired, i.e. I don't need smbpasswd any more, and if windows users change their passwords by ctrl-alt-del, they can later use the new password without coming to admins.

ransomware etc
...ome users and 10% is in trouble but, im not fixing it .. Again.. And what i did for samba, only upgrade to 4.5.10 or 4.6.5 and make my daily backups. Just go with the flow and dont use old, older and to old programs.. ! Thing to remember, if a crypto hits you, it always hits the "recently openend" first. So a "samba honeypot", well, i just dont like it, since that wil hardly work. But above is just how "I" like my setups. ransomware etc
Hi all, Just out of curiosity: is there anything we can do, on the samba side, to counter the recent ransomware attacks? (or limit the damage done) I'm thinking like: limit the number of files per second a client (workstation) is allowed to edit, or some other smart tricks..? It would be nice if samba could be an extra layer of defense. Something perhaps a vfs module could help with..?

Sync browse list between multiple workgroups?
(Samba version 1.9.18p4) I want to set up my environment thusly: - 2 workgroups, each composed of multiple subnets. - Each workgroup has a DMB and a WINS server (Samba only - no NT) - The two workgroups should collate browse lists so that clients on either workgroup can browse and connect to hosts on the opposite workgroup. I've read the documentation in BROWSING.txt and it does not appear
