Anyone using an Intel Atom ?
Just built myself a little test server with an Atom 230 processor in it
and am quite impressed with it so-far.
Wondering is anyones used one in anger for a VoIP platform?
I'm after something with a bit more oomph than the VIAs I'm currently
using that I can use in a small box (mini ATX size) without going
full-blown Xeons, etc.
Cheers,
Gordon

Newbie question about soundcards
...g shoutcast server, and doing just fine thanks. machine is a
crapola with a 486 dx/4 24meg, running SuSE kernel 2.2.16, no X, no
soundcard, runs secondary DNS and serves NFS. nothing else, hell, doesn't
even have a monitor attached. http, sendmail and others run on another box
that has more *oomph*, in case you're wondering. icecast 1.4.0 compiled on
the crapola machine
a win98 box streaming to the running shoutcast server. THIS WORKS FINE.
My dilemma:
I don't want to use the win98 box to stream the audio. without going into
much detail, suffice it to say that it is very inconv...

[LLVMdev] Build times on ARM
I recently got a tegra TK1 and was curious how fast it was compared to
my previous arm "build machine": the original arm Samsung chromebook.
I timed running ninja to build just llvm in Release+Asserts using
clang as the host compiler.
chromebook:

sys 4m0.100s

the future of markdown, according to whom?
...ent things even _more_ badly.
i mean, it will help you to isolate those rebel kids, but
at the same time, you might be surprised to learn that
they constitute _much_ of the "uptake" gruber admires,
so if your main intent is to draft on his success so far,
you will find yourself with less oomph than you hoped.
(by the way, in case it isn't clear, i'd say that gruber is
overestimating the value of markdown's uptake so far,
given that so much of it does indeed reside in those
half-assed -- or quarter-assed -- implementations.
if such trivialities are what "markdown" r...

Screen goes white while playing WonderKing
Hello,
I'm having difficulties running WonderKing (http://wonderking.ndoorsgames.com/center/default.asp) on an Intel Mac version 10.5.8 using Wine 1.1.35.
I was able to download and install both programs successfully, but when I run WonderKing, I'm able to get to the first screen where you can check to see if you have all the files needed to run the game (I have all of them), change from

Get real - install Windows!
...run just fine thankyou - under Windows. They have more than enough processing power. Maybe someone else gets 50 FPS with graphics card hardware that costs 4 times as much as mine cost when new. But given a choice between spending ?90 on a Windows license, and ?300 on new graphics cards with enough oomph to provide decent graphics (I spent less than that on my new Windows PC a few months ago and get AWESOME graphics) which do you think I choose? Me and everyone else with any common sense.
So something needs to be done. I appreciate, from reading posts about Wine dating back over 7 years or so, tha...

Single PV startup vs multiple PV startup
Hi Rusty,
I had a look over your 011-paravirt-head.S.patch. I'm struggling to
come up with a list of any benefits over having separate entrypoints for
each hypervisor.
Multiple entry pros:
* allows maximum startup flexibility for any given hypervisor
* for Xen at least, it's pretty simple
* the "what hypervisor am I under" question is answered trivially
cons:

Idea to possibly improve flac?
Cool, thanks for all the great comments.
I think we agree now on that the "find mp3 before encoding" feature would not be a good idea to implement in the flac core. As Brian pointed out, it might be a better idea to create a program that automatically checks if a flac might have been an mp3 source.
My first suggestion was to use FFT, because I know that 128kbps mp3 have a low-pass

OT: Best DB
I know this is a bit off topic but we are using Asterisk :)
Since this list is full of tech gurus w/ all different sorts of backgrounds,
I thought I would get the best opinions here.
We have several different switches and other telecom equipment at our
facilities which all have their own proprietary cdr platforms, which are
rather limited. The company I work for is looking to develop their
