timers and their usage
Hi everyone, new to the list but a long time nut user. I've tried a couple of times to set up a timer to avoid getting annoying messages when the system goes on battery for only a few seconds. in uppsched.conf I added this at the bottom: AT ONBATT * START-TIMER onbattwarn 60 AT ONLINE * CANCEL-TIMER onbattwarn What am I missing? it still doesn't wait before alerting me.

Is a timer a file?
.../upssched-doc?expand=1 Hi Arnaud, Your change to the documentation clears up what I had mis-understood. The new text makes it clear that the upssched timers are an in-memory device, and that they can only be turned on and off with upssched.conf declarations such as ??? AT ONBATT * START-TIMER onbattwarn 30 ??? AT ONLINE * CANCEL-TIMER onbattwarn > Is there some other way of forcing routine cancel_timer from a script or a configuration file? > > this is the last point to address, but I'd need to better understand prior to potentially taking action: > theoretically, each even...

Proposal for technique to stop a timer at any moment

Writing the command script handler ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ -OK, now that upssched knows how the timers are supposed to work, let's -give it something to do when one actually triggers. The name of the -example timer is onbattwarn, so that's the argument that will be passed -into your CMDSCRIPT when it triggers. This means we need to do some -shell script writing to deal with that input. +OK, now that upssched knows how the timers are supposed to work, let's give it +something to do when one actually triggers.
