grep help (character ommission)
Hello,
Banging my head against a wall here ... can anyone light the way to a
pattern modification that would make the following TRUE?
identical(
grep(
"^Intensity\\s[^HL]",
c("Intensity","Intensity L", "Intensity H", "Intensity Rep1")),
as.integer(c(1,4)))
Thank you for your time.
Sincerely, Joh

rsyncd.conf missing option akin to --one-file-system
It seems to me that rsyncd.conf does not provide an option akin to rsync's
--one-file-system command line argument. If that is true, it seems like a
bug of ommission, as I now face a use case where I need it.
Is there maybe some technical reason for the ommission?
Thanks,

Why warning: "Server's Role (logon server) NOT ADVISED with domain-level security"
When using "smbmount" (but not mount.cifs), I get the warning
message:
Server's Role (logon server) NOT ADVISED with domain-level security
This has appeared after I added "security=domain" back into
my smb.conf file (seems I or an upgrade deleted it last December).
Why is it "not advised" to use the same machine for logon server
and domain security?
Is it just

Howto get playtime
Hi,
Searched in Google, browsed xiph vorbis sites but found no good information
about how to get the current playtime out of the granuleposition of the
ogg_packet.
Anyone knows if there is any 'Programming with libvorbis' documentation out
there, cause on xiph's site (http://www.xiph.org/vorbis/doc/) there's
nothing :(
Any help?

Tom

netmask 255.255.255.255 vs ip route add via ... (bug?)
Greetings routing folks,
I want to use the netmask 255.255.255.255 to insulate (not quite
isolate) machines on a shared subnet from each other. This works
just fine on win XP, but Linux iproute will not acccept the
gateway address in one step -- neither on the command line nor
via DHCP:
Here''s the interface, set up with a netmask of /32:
# ip addr

callNextMethod() with builtin group methods fails to create proper environment
Hi all,
After all these years, I am finally porting some R-2.3.1-based S4 object
code to R-2.6.1, dealing with all the S4 object system changes that came
in R-2.4.0.
I've run across what appears to be some sort of ommission in the
implementation of callNextMethod() when used with primitives having
group generic methods.
In a stock R-2.6.1 patched (happens to be running on AMD64/RHEL 4, but

rsync+ (batch mode) feature suggestion
...(a feature that neither rcp and rsh nor rsync/d provide
at all).
I hope this all made some reasonable sense. Assuming so, I
not only trust that you will see the point and agree with it's
desirability, but that you will also be able to relatively
easily fill in my logical gaps and detail ommissions here
as well extrapolate as necessary.
All the same, batch mode is a nice additional feature as is. Thanks.
I just think it could be better yet. :-) Let me know your thoughts
on this idea. :-)

P.S. FYI, although I CCd it here, I am not on the rsync mailing list.

aggregating columns in a data frame in different ways
I would like to use aggregate() to combine statistics
for several days in a data frame. My data frame looks
similar to this:
date type count value
1 2006-04-01 A 10 99.6
2 2006-04-01 B 4 33.2
3 2006-04-02 A 22 43.2
4 2006-04-02 B 8 44.9
5 2006-04-03 A 12 12.4
6 2006-04-03 B 14 18.5

Questions on qcow, qcow2 versus LVM
I''ve been using lvm under centos to create the backing store for domUs and
although the performance seems acceptable it has some shortcomings. The
biggest of which is the LVM bug which prevents me from removing an lv (it
says it is still mounted and it definitely isnt). I thought this was just
a centos bug but it appears to be evident in debian and ubuntu too and I
really can''t
