OLPC project
The One Laptop Per Child project is now including a digital camera in the design of their "$100" laptop computer. According to their latest news, this device will record video at 30 fps and at VGA resolution. Also, the OLPC project is considering using content from WikiMedia, and video files at WikiMedia are stored in ogg theora format. Have folks involved in the OLPC project communicated with people at Xiph about supporting development of theora? It looks like OLPC is well funded, and would be in a position to do t...

optimization for OLPC

I heard that Theora will be used on OLPC.
Is anyone working on optimization for OLPC?

The XO laptop from the One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) program
There was recently a question on the R-help list about the eee pc. I
had a related question about the XO laptop from OLPC (laptop.org).
Has anyone looked at the development environment sufficiently to
determine if it would be possible to create an executable image for R?
The laptop itself only supports Python, Javascript, etc. but it is
running a real Linux operating system.

Theora and OLPC
Hi guys,
My name is Adir. I'm a Google Summer of Code student, and in addition to
that I will be working both with Xiph.org and with OLPC on optimizing
Theora's performance.
I'm in the list to get a shiny B4, but at the moment I can't do anything
since sending the laptop to my place involves some difficulties. Until I get
the laptop, I would like to hear from any of you, XO users and testers, to
let me know about your ex...

- Can anyone suggest suitable inputs that combine both video and audio?
I have not used the gnashdev gcc4.3 build

isohybrid and partition type 0x17
Hi,
OLPC's Openfirmware (OFW) implementation chokes when attempting to boot
an iso created by isohybrid. The problem is that OFW's ISO-9660
support expects a partition type of 0x96 (CHRP ISO-9660, according to
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Partition_type). I see from

Move listeners problems
Thanks, Karl! I've checked the log files during a move command but I
couldn't find anything that looked related to the problems. I've
thought of upgrading to 2.3.2 but thought I should ask first if it was
something common - saw that someone mailed about the same problems a
couple of months ago, if I understood it correctly.

In WineXO, how to change drive_c location?
Hi, people!
Because XO-1 has a little "disk" space, it will be nice if
the location of drive_c can be moved to a SD card.
Here in Uruguay, we do not have root permissions in our XO-1.
We log in as user olpc an can change permissions only in some
directories.
And can create links to files but not hard links to directories.
The SD card is mounted in /media/label_of_sd_card.
I appreciate any help.

Building CentOS 6.2 custom install media
Hi,
For the OLPC school server ("XS") we are planning to move from our
dated F9 setup to CentOS 6.2. Thanks for all the effort involved in
producing this distro.
One important part of this project is a 'respin' of the install media
- we need to add a handful of packages from external repositories...

Feedback on Listing at teachingopensource.org
...project listing looks very well done. On your ideas
page, you haven't done a lot to sell/market each idea. Why is development of
this specific project going to improve Xapian overall? How will that
improvement empower/improve some of the downstream projects you mention use
Xapian (e.g. Debian, OLPC).
I think you'll see more interest from students if you jazz up the listings a
bit. I think for professors it's probably fine as is, though some verbiage
about why having a good fundamental understanding of search is a good thing
for students would be useful to both parties.
I'd like...

Generating a properly configured Wine installation

Dear Wine users,
I am attempting to run Wine inside Sugar, the OLPC GUI environment. I
have managed to learn how to run wine from a nonstandard install prefix.
I am now trying to generate a correctly customized .wine/ automatically.
For example, I wish to set the DPI to 160 before any programs are run. I
also wish to set the USERPROFILE setting to something not b...
