and output?
For example, if I use something like readline("..."), demo
prints both readline("...") and ...; as far as I can tell, this
is also true of print() and cat(). I just want students to stop
and think about every command in my demo scripts.
Thanks,
Olivia.

In the last line, help(topic) returns that there is no help for

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks,

...o a local installation. I'm sorry about the confusion.
One question about the CRAN submission process: Once the package is on
CRAN, how frequently can we update the package (release a new version)?
Is it basically continuous? I read R-ext carefully, but it doesn't seem
to say.

Maximum likelihood estimation in R with censored Data
...39;m trying to calculate the Maximum likelihood estimators for a dataset
which contains censored data.
I started by using the function "nlm", but isn't there a separate method
for doing this for e.g. the "weibull" and the "log-normal" distribution?
Thanks,

normal cdf over an interval

log(pnorm(a, mean = x, sd = y) - pnorm(b, mean = x, sd = y))
Does anyone know of a single function that does the above? Or knows of a way to make it more stable? I'd really appreciate any suggestions!

dim vs length for vectors
...ld get the length of the vector
(which one *could* obtain by doing length(), but I think this is
less logical). I think that R should save length() for lists
that have objects of different dimension and type.
Does this make sense? Or is there a better explanation?
Thanks in advance! Yours,

Is there any way to modify the demo() function so that it looks for the exact match, not a match for the string? I could of course rename the demo file, but I'm afraid that students won't remember it (blogit is a name of a function as well).
Thanks in advance,

My question is whether it depends on qemu implementation to migrate qemu hypervisor with libvirt?

predicted probabilities for each categorical outcome, that would
work as well, but I don't have a clue as to how to start programming this.

The debug message is as below:

Do you have any suggestion to investigate/debug this error?
Wish you could reply. Thank you in advance.

Samba + OpenLDAP + Automount question
Hi Samba Gurus,
I am not sure why my questions to the forum are not getting posted (and
I don't get any reply at all)!!!! Anyway, instead of my Mac mail client,
I am using webmail just to see if that works. Sorry for the repetition.
We have an OpenLDAP server (openldap2-2.1.22-65) and a separate NFS
server for home dirs. Currently LDAP NIS maps are being used by the

Wish R Core had a standard format (or generic function) for "newdata" objects
...ers trip over the use of "options" there. If
I don't use that for a month or two, I completely forget the fine
points and have to fight with it. But it does "work" to give plots
and predict functions the information they require.
In Zelig ( by Kosuke Imai, Gary King, and Olivia Lau), a function
"setx" does the work of creating "newdata" objects. That appears to be
about right as a candidate for a generic "newdata" function. Perhaps
it could directly generalize to all R regression functions, but right
now it is tailored to the models in Zelig....

stock ubuntu raring binary R 3.0.1 and accelerated blas libraries?
dear debian-R group:
I am using the stock ubuntu binary R 3.0.1 for ubuntu raring but on
cinnamon mint olivia 15.
I read dirk's gcbd paper from a couple of years ago. it suggests that
stock blas is pretty bad compared to the four main alternatives. of
course, dirk also maintains the binaries for debian/ubuntu R, so he
probably knows the answer off hand.
I installed libatlas3-base (3.8.4-9ubuntu1)...
