Denial of Service attacks against Dovecot v1.1+
There's an upper limit to how many IMAP/POP3 connections can exist that haven't logged in (and separate limits for post-login). Normally when this limit is reached, the oldest connection gets disconnected. There is of course some potential to try to DoS Dovecot by doing a lot of IMAP/POP3 connections, but because the oldest connection always gets destroyed this requires quite a lot of activity from the attacker. This "destroy oldest connection" however hasn...

How do I remove a kernel
...h for the next one. I had installonly_limit= set at 5, as there were some kernel problems.? After I got the error that there was not enough room for another kernel, I set installonly_limit= to 3 and did the update with --exclude=kernel* That worked to update everything else, but not remove the oldest kernel. How can I remove the oldest kernel to make room for the new one? thanks

Upload / migrate old mails: iPhone shows oldest mails first
hi, I've got a very strange behavior: I uploaded old mails from a local folder (thunderbird / osx) to my Dovecot (Debian Squeeze) and now, the iphone (ios6) show the oldest mails first. The only thing I can imagine is, that Dovecot got from Thunderbird the newest mails first and last the old mails, so that in the last mdbox are the old one. So, if it is correct, how can I fix it? cu denny

Voicemail playback NEWEST first vs. OLDEST first
Is there a way to make the asterisk voicemail app play back messages in NEWEST FIRST order, instead of OLDEST FIRST? I see the situation repeatedly where someone needs to dip into their voicemail archive to get something from a recently saved voicemail message, and they have to slog through lots of irrelevant stuff to get there. I have seen this question come up previously on this list without an answer...

VOICEMAIL OPTIONS help needed
...re some way to send the voicemail ONLY to email and not retain them on the phone? - Alternatively, can the voicemail system only keep, say, just the last 10 messages (as backup in case of email delivery failure or a message getting deleted in email accidentally before it is heard), purging out the oldest when a new one is received? (If we set the option maxmsg=10 on his mailbox in voicemail.conf, I think it will stop accepting voicemails after 10 messages, not turf the oldest one and accept a new one in its place). Everyone else uses the normal voicemail options on their phones, so the solution sh...

vfs_shadow_copy2: unmount snapshot while user is restoring from it
Hi Jeremy, The use case is that we want to automatically rotate the snapshots. For example, we want to keep 24 hourly snapshots, and every hour we create a new snapshot and unmount the oldest one. But since customers can be restoring from the oldest snapshot right now, it is not deterministic when we will be able to unmount the oldest snapshot. So at that moment we want all active restore operations to abort with an error, and then we unmount. This problem should be common to all storag...

rsync oldest files first
..., usually the team of people that watch this process copy the file by hand before rsync has a chance to catch up. But the main reason for my post is that rsync does not appear to be obeying the file order I am specifying in my command. In the event of a failed transfer I want rsync to transfer the oldest files first so that the back end systems don't get backed up. But even though the file list I provide rsync has files in a specific order, it seems to re-arrange them anyways into alphabetical order. My rsync script kills any running copies of rsync before running again to make sure it's t...

tail and head drop qdiscs
I think that there are no qdiscs that permit to drop the oldest frame of a queue when this queue is full, but I would like to be wrong: bfifo drops arriving frames when the max queue length is reached. red also drops arriving frames in a more elaborate fashion, with a drop probability that increases above a limit and becomes a drop certitude when the max q...

Kernel updates do not boot - always boots oldest kernel
Change it to GRUB_DEFAULT=0 (I encountered the same issue week ago with a workstation booted for three month with an older kernel because of https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2143438 , and solved it this way) Regards, Petko On 3/14/23 10:51, Rob Kampen wrote: > Can I edit /etc/default/grub and change > > GRUB_DEFAULT=saved > > to something else? -- Petko Alov

[OT] Oldest Telephone
While the rest of you were chatting about the smallest * server, I was sitting her staring at the telephone hanging on the wall. It is a Western Electric set in a varnished pine box with an earpiece you hold in your left hand and a mouthpiece attached to the box. You crank the magneto with your right hand to signal the switchboard. The two dry cells inside are dated 1935, and I'm

The TRUE false doesnt have to be considered but is preferable. The result would then be: HhSerialno HhAge 735 59 1147 48 2019 42 4131 24 4217 89 4629 60 4822 47 5979 57 6128 76 7004 70 7438 62 9402 30 10115...

Jitter Buffer issues
...there is no problem with the calling order. My second problem happens when there is a dropout in the connection. If the packets are postponed during the dropout and multiple packets with different sequence arrive once the link is reestablished there is a large latency delay introduced because the oldest packet is the first one retrieved. This latency stays until tb_init() is called on the first timing buffer. This can take as long as 12.3 seconds. When the first timing buffer is cleared the next packet causes compute_opt_delay() to return the correct delay since there is only one delay in the timi...

Kernel updates do not boot - always boots oldest kernel
OK, found out the problem as to why it doesn't boot any kernel except 36.2 the system reports that it cannot find vmlinuz-3.10.0-1160.88.1.el7.x86_64 or any one of the others, except for vmlinuz-3.10.0-1160.36.2.el7.x86_64 hence a manual selection from the grub menu when in front of the machine will only load the 36.2 kernel I found that under /boot/grub2 there were two .rpmnew files

Does it matter if the patches are mixed up or do they have to be in a specific order, from oldest to latest for it to be successful?
