Error joining Samba 4.7.4 DC to existing Win2008R2 domain
Thanks for your help. > On the Windows DC can you check that the A record is actually created? Yes, it is, and it persists after join failure. Another sign of presence of SRVAD-NEW on the old DC is the new computer account, created in "Domain controllers" folder in "Active Directory Users and Computers" at the beginning of join procedure then automatically removed just

Error joining Samba 4.7.4 DC to existing Win2008R2 domain
Tested again to join, now clearing both Kerberos, Samba config and Samba private folder. The new log now has some more details (resolve_lmhosts: Attempting lmhosts lookup for name SRVAD-OLD.SAMDOM.LOCAL<0x20>), but I'm still not able to join. Wonder why is it trying to do an lmhosts lookup, 4.6 is not. An identical server (with same hostname and IP) with Samba 4.6 joins without

DC join failed
I relive this chain of mails because I had no way to go. Thank you all for the excellent help in this mailing. At the time I assumed that the problem was the very battered Windows AD. I received it as an inheritance and I was trying these months to solve problem by problem. I am sure that I have the problem in Windows, but other windows can be added without problem, the problem is with samba. I

Error joining Samba 4.7.4 DC to existing Win2008R2 domain
It seems I'm talking to myself... anyway another test here: Added the existing DC IP config to /etc/hosts and the join now shows a more explicit LDAP error: --- Wrong username or password: kinit for SRVAD-NEW$@SAMDOM.LOCAL failed (Preauthentication failed) SPNEGO(gssapi_krb5) creating NEG_TOKEN_INIT for ldap/SRVAD-OLD.SAMDOM.LOCAL failed (next[ntlmssp]): NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE Got

Error joining Samba 4.7.4 DC to existing Win2008R2 domain
Can you specify the full DN of the DNS record in question? Afterwards, maybe you can also try deleting that DNS record and retry the join? Failed to find machine account is almost certainly an unrelated debug message. I don't think it has any relation to your issue. Tried again to join, now with full cleanup of /var/lib/samba/private folder on new server... same error. Anyone have an idea of what's going wrong? I've changed it to replicate to only Domain DNS and

Software lifecycle for R releases (aka practical limits of support for older versions)
Hello useRs: Does anyone have thoughts on the lifecycle of older releases of R? I know that currently the 2.8.x and 2.9.x releases seem to be actively "supported" on the mailing lists, but what about older releases, say 2.4.x? Curious to hear when people think older versions of R become obsolete and unsupportable on the lists (or other venues). Regards, Brian

Error joining Samba 4.7.4 DC to existing Win2008R2 domain
I have an existing Win2008-R2 domain with a single DC and I'd like to replace this DC with a Samba 4 DC. I'm using VirtualBox VMs to test the migration before going to production. I've cloned Windows 2008R2 Server into the first VM, then installed Ubuntu_18.04_server_x64_daily (Samba 4.7.4) into another VM. Win2008-R2:?? hostname=SRVAD-OLD, IP: 10.0.3.90 Ubuntu_18.04:

backup AD content
I happily and trustfully use Louis' backup-script from https://github.com/thctlo/samba4 to dump AD content via cronjob. Is it necessary/recommended to do that on *each* samba DC? Is there something server-specific in the dump(s) or is it enough to do that once per domain? thanks ...

Building for older versions
Hi -- I'm trying to build an application on CentOS 7 which can run on older versions of CentOS. I'm running into problems with versioning of memcpy in Glibc. Executables built on CentOS 7 require memcpy from glibc-2.14, which causes the program not to load on systems with older versions of glibc. My online search suggests to add an asm() with a .symver option to select memcpy from

how to tell if a file is older than 30 days?
I am trying to find out how to tell if a given file is 30 days or older. How is that type of thing done in shell scripts.
