tftp server with mysql backend
Are there any open source efforts ( I haven't found any) that have a tftp server with a mysql backend? I'd like an incoming pxelinux request to give the tftp server the mac address, and then it performs a query to find out which configuration file it should get. Of course it would be great if some day tftp-hpa would integrate with libmysql.. Thanks, James James S. Martin, RHCE

System on time
Hi, To get my system on time, I usually issue these two commands: # ntpdate de.pool.ntp.org # hwclock -w And when I want this to be done on startup, I put the two lines in rc.local. I wonder if this is an orthodox way to do things. Or is there something more appropriate? Niki Kovacs

2.6.9-42.ELsmp kernel and 3ware 9550 tools
I have the latest kernel with the drivers for my 3ware 9550SX built in. Where can I find the tools and monitoring apps for this card? Are there rpms hiding somewhere, or do I need to build it from source? -- Bowie

Building rpms
I have been asked to update OpenLDAP to the latest stable version. I am using CentOS 4.2 and have OpenLDAP 2.2.13 installed. I can install from source if I have to, but I would rather stay with rpm packages if possible. I found an rpm from Fedora Core Development on RPMFIND. Will this one work with Centos, or should I grab the source rpm and rebuild it? Bowie

Re: imap on Centos 4 -- UW IMAP 2004b for FC3/RHEL4
From: Matt Hyclak <hyclak at math.ohiou.edu> > Actually, the more direct replacement would be Dovecot. > Cyrus can be complicated to set up and get running. I actually modified the old UW IMAP 2002 SPEC file from RHL9/FC1, and modified a few config files, to support UW IMAP 2004b. I made one with both RFC3501 (no text password...

kernel recompile help
Everytime I try to recompile a kernel, "make modules" always dies with the error: mv: cannot stat `include/asm-i386/asm_offsets.h.tmp': No such file or directory make: *** [include/asm-i386/asm_offsets.h] Error 1 I installed the src RPM and kernel-devel ... any ideas as to what I could be doing wrong? Thanks!!

building a new kernel, problems booting without initrd
Hello all, Grabbed a new kernel (from kernel.org) to build a custom kernel but it won't boot. I followed the directions at redhat to setup a box without initrd (which I don't want and don't need to use). But the system hangs. Has anyone built a custom kernel without using initrd? I'm using CentOS 4.2. It hangs at or after "Freeing unused memory" Thanks. excerpt from

vorbiscomment bug
Hi, Sorry - not sure if this is the right list for such an email, but... I posted to the vorbis@xiph.org list and received no response. I was hoping to report a bug (at http://trac.xiph.org/), but I don't see any obvious way to create an account, as is required by Xiph's trac instance. I actually found another ticket describing the issue that I was going to report:

Compiling kernel/drivers for hw RocketRaid 1640
...om them... I can't be sure, however, I don't think CentOS is identical in this way... Really, I'd like a FAQ for specific kernel compilation on CentOS 4.1, however, failing that, here are the error messages that I'm getting: In trying to follow this guide: http://crab-lab.zool.ohiou.edu/kevin/kernel-compilation-tutorial-en/index.html , I was unable to complete step 4: first and foremost, there was no mention of rpm-build in that guide, which I was told I needed to install, and did, seemingly without issue. This was the next message I received: > [root at localhost jae]#...

Kickstart, package always selected
I'm trying to kickstart a Centos 4.1 system with the minimum set of packages. I have no use for ypbind so I'm trying to prevent from being installed, but kickstart/anaconda always insist on its installation (complaining that the package is missing). This is the %packages section of my ks file so far: %packages #-@ dialup kernel grub e2fsprogs lvm2 -slocate -bluez-utils -bluez-bluefw

trying to recompile
Hi All, I am trying to recompile the stock kernel to include XFS. At install time of the OS I select to install the kernel source code however I do not have a /usr/src/linux-2.6.9-5.0.3.EL-smp directory. I then learned you must run "yum install kernel-sourcecode" to properly install the source. When I run the command this is what happens ( see below) . The error I get is: warning:
