A Suggestion for Strikethrough Syntax
All,
Hopefully, I'm not covering old territory, and a search of the list
archives seems to indicate that I'm not. If I am, then I extend my
apologies in advance.
I use strikethrough a lot so I modify my Movable Type Markdown module
as shown below, right about line 1040 or so. I assume other Markdown
implementations can use this change as well:
sub _DoItalicsAndBold {
my $text = shift;

Lazy Samba (that'd make it Waltz)
Funny thing happening with an NT Client: it sees all the files in a
public Samba share, but when I make any change (like renaming a file or
dropping files into it) the change doesn't show up in the window until I
press F5 (Refresh). Is it some config in Samba whichs defaults to "lazy"
behavior which I'm failing to see?
Thanx 4All,
Juan

/bin/login problem
I would be surprised if someone hasn''t encountered this already, but I
haven''t found any discussion of the nature of this problem. I run RehHat
5.0. If a user makes a mistake in the login process such as the
following:
login: mistake
password: xxx
Login incorrect!
login: username
password xxxx
bash$
a ps will show, among other things,
2333 /bin/login --mistake.
Since some users accidentally type their password at the login prompt,
this is a concern.
Is this a well known pr...

Happy Birthday portable OpenSSH!
It was one year ago today that I released a patch to get OpenSSH
compiling on Linux. I had no idea just how much trouble releasing that
patch would get me into :)
Within days I was inundated with patches, improvements and portability
enhancements - contributions which have made portable OpenSSH the
success it is today.
So allow me to thank the current developers and all of you who have

Do you need more information? I use Debian GNU/Linux potato and OpenSSH

samba ver 2 beta 1 (gaping wide bug)
Please excuse me if this has been covered, but I just noticed something odd
with samba 2 beta 1. If I use smbclient to connect to a passworded resource on
a win machine (I've tried it with 98/95) and I just hit enter for the password,
it lets me in. No questions asked. So, I pretty much have unlimited read
access to stuff I should not be able to get to.
Best Regards.

R version conflict.
My mistake :(
Seems that there's another R installed by root. So when I use .libPaths()
there're two of them:
> .libPaths()
[1] "/disk/hopper/projects/class/cse514/R/library"
[2] "/usr/lib/R/library"
How could the second path be enabled then? The R_LIBS have already been
set to as the [1] only.
Thanks,

To my eyes, this looks like a planned no-op. Markus Friedl earlier
reported that, as of late April, sftp was still on the to-do list. What
about the future (or lack thereof) of an OpenSSH subsystem facility in
general?

make install
Yo All!
I was just looking at the "other" SSH for ideas. There is
one thing in their install that would be nice. When they do a
'make install' they check to see if a host key already exists and
if it does not they create one and install it. This sure makes life
simple and should be simple to code in the Makefile.

information about known issues/bugs
Hi
Where can I find more information about open bugs/
known limitations against Ext3. Also, is there any doc
giving planned features/tasks ?
It will be a big help if someone could point me to
this information.
Thanks,
Ash

Bug#543479: network-bridge doesn't handle secondary address of ${netdev}
Package: xen-utils-common
Version: 3.2.0-2
In network bridge, IP addresses of ${netdev} are correctly transferred
to ${tdev} which later is renamed to ${bridge} (by default = ${netdev}).
But then there is ifup ${bridge} which sets up again the network
configuration for ${bdrige}/${netdev} and aliases (e.g. eth0:1 defined
in /etc/network/interfaces) are loosed.

Logon Musings
I'm toying with the idea of writing a Samba-oriented Win95/98/NT logon
window. I know it's possible to replace Windows' logon mechanism with
another. Novell's Client32 does this. I know there's also standards to
make a network service available to Windows' change-password mechanism
(so I can fire smbpasswd on the other side). That could be an
alternative to establishing

Safe Win9x?
I want to install a linux samba server to serve 30 win9x machines. I
want to prevent users from writing on the local drives, they should
have write access only to their home dirs on the samba box. These
users have a nasty habit of deleting crucial system files.
Is it at all possible with win9x and samba? Of course NT workstations
could resolve the problem, but that's not an option with these

Using UNIX passwords
I'm sure this is a FAQ, though I couldn't find it in any FAQ or the docs...
How do I have Samba authenticate users via the local UNIX passwd file?
