kate and W3C timed text
Hi ogg.k, I've just been asked what the difference was between Kate and the W3C timed text format (http://www.w3.org/AudioVideo/TT/) and whether there was any compatibility. It migjht be a question and answer to add to the OggKate wiki page. Cheers, Silvia.

Ogg/Kate preliminary documentation
Hi, I've now uploaded the preliminary documentation on the xiph wiki: http://wiki.xiph.org/index.php/OggKate Attached is the current source tree for the libkate library. The tarball also contains the patch to oggmerge (which you will need to apply if you want to merge Kate streams with Vorbis or Theora streams) and the patch to MPlayer to use Kate streams as subtitles. An example is included - note th...

It doesn't take into consideration neither Skeleton, which is used now in pre...

support for kate bitstreams
...tream format for text data that can be muxed in ogg, here presumably alongside a Theora video. It can be used to carry subtitles, and several separate streams can be muxed concurrently (eg, for subtitles in several languages). More info about Kate can be found there: http://wiki.xiph.org/index.php/OggKate Note that despite the location, this is not a Xiph codec. I currently have patches to icecast 2.3.1 and libshout 2.2.2, and it works with (patched) mplayer and xine. I can port those patches to icecast svn, but I can't find the cvs/svn for libshout to port to. Am I right thinking that libshou...

Flac and lyrics
Both MPEG-4 File Format (mp4) and Matroska (mkv) have an interesting format for lyrics and subtitles. Since these container formats can contain multiple contain streams, lyrics or subtitles are just another "stream" interleaved with the rest of the data. They are synchronized by having timestamps like any other stream. The payload is just text data. If you don't care about

Sorry, but i wasn't sure the best place to post this. I was looking for some forums but it doesn't look like Xiph has any official ones. Anyways, i heard about this MT9 think a while ago and i thought it would be awesome if FLAC, Vorbis, and all could implement something like this. http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2008/may/27/news.seanmichaels http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MT9 In
