icecast sound compressor
hm, to have a look at Pure Data and external called oggcast~ http://www.akustische-kunst.org/puredata/ is recomended,
you can set quality/bitrate/samplerate ... while streaming then, and do whateweryou want to your sound
before sending it to icecast, including building your compressor-limiter.
cheers

Ogg Vorbis at Radio NZ
I don't forward everything along, but an RSS feed of oggcasts appeals
to the geek in me.

intended login protocol for icecast2
well, don't get me wrong, I am not generally opposed to progress, but
speaking as a coder of source clients, providing yet another authentication
mechanism is a bit frustrating....
I guess it wasn't too bad having to deal with Shoutcast/Icecast/Icecast2
specific connection protocols (yes they are ALL different!) but I am NOT
going to support Shoutcast/ICecast/Icecast2 (ICE

intended login protocol for icecast2
.../Icecast2 (HTTP Basic
> Auth)/Icecast2 (HTTP Digest)...
there should be only one login protocol for icecast2. are there any
advantages of HTTP Basic Auth over ICE/1.0? There are several programms
which have to be changed:
Server: Icecast2, Jroar
Clients: Darkice, Ices2, OddcastDSP, Ostream, Oggcast (PD external),...
Not only the coders have to change, but people have to download (,
compile) and install the new software. So we as developers should agree
on one login protocol.

unified meta-data handling ogg/theora/vorbis
...ing vorbiscomment, great! but that is only for sound-files. :( Seems theora has meta-data also, but its not compatible with vorbis, and it seems there is no theoracomment to manipulate theora meta-data.
My grand dream was to be able to stream media from a client machine (running ices2 or oggfwd or oggcast [from PD] etc..) Have the ices2 client, or icecast server append the meta-data to it (location of recording, tone of voice, topic of recording etc.). Then using something like vorbiscomment to meander through the data-base based on meta-data content. The meta-data would probably have to be loaded i...

DarkIce make problems
Hi everybody
I'm trying to encode the soundcard signal to serve it with IceCast, but
I'm having problems with making darkice-0.11. Anybody could help?
I'm compiling in a Solaris 6 OS with gcc 2.8.1, and I've installed lame
and Vorbis libraries.
This is my config phrase:
./configure --prefix=/aplicacions/icecast-1.3.12/darkice --with-lame
--with-vorbis
