directly.
- the only difference I can see on the wire is that nginx is much
quicker (2.5ms) in responding than the zimbra (25ms) server and
that the position of the STARTTLS and SASL=PLAIN capabilities in
the capability answer differs between the two.
any ideas ?

patch to stop rsync from polluting the filesystem cache
...more consistent.
* I don't really know the rsync code, so it may be that the patch
is calling fadvise for files where this would not be necessary.
* The patch is tested only on Linux 2.6.18
If you have any input on this, please let me know.
You can get the patch from

DO NOT REPLY [Bug 7004] New: Use posix_fadvise to free cached file contents when done
...idg3t.net
QAContact: rsync-qa at samba.org
It would be good if rsync used posix_fadvise with POSIX_FADV_DONTNEED to notify
the kernel when it no longer needs file contents that have been synced to
prevent useful cache contents being dropped in favor of never-reused rsynced
files.

Darkstat
Hi all,
please, tell me about security of Darkstat. Is it good idea to install it on
firewall/gateway ?
I'd like to measure our company traffic, but I do not have Apache running on
the gateway. How could I redirect Darkstat's output to web-server inside
company ?
Or is there some other tool, which can measure in/out traffic and send
output to another machine ? I know MRTG, but it uses

sshd does not exit after scp (hpux 11.00 / ssh 2.1.1p1)
Hello,
I have encountered a problem using ssh-2.1.1p1 on HP-UX 11.00:
Everything else seems to work but running scp results in processes staying open:
On the server there are 2 processes still running after copying a file: "scp -v
-t /tmp"
and one sshd. On the client also a ssh-process stays running until killing one
of
the processes manually...
The copying works fine however.

[Bug 9560] New: drop-cache option
...xemple, I use rsync without this patch, rsync use 7GB of ram and when it's
finished, cache ram is always used.
When I use rsync with this patch, rsync use 7GB of ram but when it's finished,

Thanks.

OpenSSH 2.3.0p1: Broken pipe / SIGPIPE

on my Linux 2.2.17 box with OpenSSL 0.9.5a (RedHat 7.0).
According to the "ChangeLog", there was a change in SIGPIPE
handling:

I don't know what it fixes for X, but it breaks pipe handling in
some other ways.
While "yes | head -1" worked okay with OpenSSH 2.1.1p4, it hangs
with tcsh 6.10.00 and OpenSSH 2.3.0p1 d...

Problems joining a domain with a large number of DCs
I'm having issues joining samba to a domain with a large number of
domain controllers. The domain is a mixed windows 2003/windows 2008
domain. The samba server is Solaris 10 update 5 running on SPARC.
I have a custom samba build of samba 3.0.28 on the server because we
need Tobi Oetiker's samfs patch. Because of the issue that version has
with passwords longer than eight characters on Solaris, I've also build
samba 3.0.24 for using net to join the domain.
Using net from 3.0.24, I'm able to join the domain in the customary net
ads join -U user@DOMAIN.COM way. A win...

cpu load monitoring
Hi,
I have a server running Centos 5.2 and am implementing a GIS mapserver app. I
have some sample logs from another implementation that give me an idea of
bandwidth requirements but I would like to check the cpu load. I can not be
at the server during the test and am interested in knowing if there is
logging of cpu load available. Anyone have experience with this?
Recommendations?

fadvise DONTNEED implementation (or lack thereof)
...e a few
folks[4] have discussed addressing the issue in the past, but nothing
has happened as of 2.6.36. Are there plans to implement this
functionality in the near future? It seems like the utility of fadvise
is severely limited by lacking support for NOREUSE.
Cheers,
- Ben

[RFC PATCH] fadvise support in rsync
...t (any
comments on these ideas?) . At the moment is for little more than testing.
Considering the potential negative effects of using FADV_DONTNEED on older
kernels, it is likely we will want this functionality off by default with a
command line flag to enable.
Cheers,
