Samba clients to windows AD server - DDNS problem
...records expire. Despite days of searching we cannot seem to work out how these updates are meant to happen. With windows clients they are done automatically but on Linux it seems nothing is doing triggering this.
The majority of our Linux systems are Ubuntu Server 14.04 LTS with a small number of OEL7 systems mixed in (due to an upstream provider of a critical application which cannot run on any other distribution).
Could somebody please provide some insight into how to fix the DDNS update to be automated ? Can this be done ? A link to the appropriate manual would be perfectly fine - we may sim...

Yeah, I thought they were a bit behind the curve by supplying 4.0 with the OS, but then the OS itself is several years old too. Maybe this will help make them push out an updated version of Samba. They have Samba 4.1 in the OEL7 release, which is still a bit behind, but better. Perhaps they will make that available to OEL6 too.

Don't know. A minimal install of Samba, sssd on OEL7 doesn't include or
require krb5-workstation (which is how you get kinit), see at the end of
this post. I understand Administrator is a built-in account. I have
never created it, let alone assigned a PW. All I did which can figure is
related is assigning sambapasswd root, and the bespoke use...

No, not correct.
root has its password.
Administrator has it own password, even when mapped these are different.
these users just share the same uid 0 !
test with kinit Administrator at YOUR.REALM.TLD
and have a look here.
