WinXP user password not accepted - very strange !!!
...in with his password all works well. If he restarts or shutdown his machine and tries to relogin the system tells him that his username/password is not correct. If I reset his password @ Ubuntu with smbpasswd username and renter the exactly same password, the user logs in successfully! This is the oddest thing. It appears as if this user's password is "canceled" every time despite the fact that the user has never changed his password during this period of time. Does anyone have any ideas? All WinXP SP2 clients have requiresignorseal = 0 and they have all joined the network in the ex...

indexing for sub items appears to fail after validation failureq
...e form to edit the parent that displays the children as well. The associated objects are represented via partials that contain indexed fields like: <%= text_field ''form[]'', ''pages'' %> When there is a validation failure in the "child" form the oddest thing is happening, when the partial is rendered again the id is blank and the index operator is ignored.. Does this make sense? What could be causing this?

Adding ActiveRecord objects to the session
...I am creating an AJAX quoting/puchasing system and I am having a bit of unexpected behavior when adding ActiveRecord objects to the session. When I add the ActiveRecord object (in this case QuotePart) to the session it automatically saves the object that was added to the session to the DB. And the oddest part is that it automatically fills in the foreign key field quote_id, even though it is set to 0 at the time it is saved to the session. Here is the offending code, not the debugging statements; the first stament returns " - 0 - new" and the second statement returns "123 - 4 - DB&q...

Call Connections Dropped
We just had the oddest thing happen which worries us as new users. We had 3 calls running on asterisk (one from sip to sip and the other to sip to zap). It seemed for no reason, the connections just dropped and the lines went dead. You couldn't call a phone (not even yourself). Once I restarted asterisk (it graceful...

Odd Error message with rare events logit
I'm running a rare events logit model in R using the Zelig package and am getting some of the oddest error messages that I can't figure out. y = rnorm(100) x = c(rep("0",1), rep("1",99)) d = data.frame(won=x, bid=y) d mod1 <- zelig(y~x, model="relogit", data=d, tau=1/100, case.correct="prior", bias.correct=TRUE, robust=TRUE) > mod1 <- zelig(y~x...

tuning software echo cancellation
...can was the way to go. Our first few boxes without it had horrid echo problems, and attempts at tuning in 2006 didn't make any difference. We installed a new server yesterday at a client's location with a Rhino 4 port FXO card (HW EC included), and when an inbound call was answered the oddest shrieking sound was heard by the caller, and the internal SIP phone heard nothing at all. On a call with Rhino support they disabled the echo cancellation module and all was well, though of course we have a horrible echo problem now. We are going through an RMA process with Rhino, which is fi...

Looking for a guide to collect all e-mail from the ISP mail server
...un Ubuntu on it, and allow Ubuntu to do security updates and restarts and you'll almost certainly be fine. If you want, get a fully managed VPS for a little more, and they'll do all that for you. Or, one of a hundred other ways to accomplish handling mail - but you've picked one of the oddest, most difficult ways...and then "complain" that there's no examples. Yeah, 'cause no-one wants to do it your way because it's crazy. Sorry dude - I kinda get it, but no, I'd never pick your way of doing it, and I'm not surprised that there's almost no one who has...

Looking for a guide to collect all e-mail from the ISP mail server
> 2. install and configure OfflineIMAP to synchronize the IMAP folders between your ISP IMAP server and your Dovecot server; see for example > http://www.offlineimap.org/doc/quick_start.html OfflineIMAP is not the way to go. Many ISPs have very low size limits for the mailbox sizes. The one I am looking at right now does have this problem (unless you pay extra). From what I have

order of network interfaces in domU messed up?
Hi, until now, i have been using Xen 3.0.2. Now i upgraded to Xen 3.0.4. Can anybody confirm, that the ordner in the config files for the network interfaces has not changed? My config file used to read: vif = [ ''bridge=xenbr0'', ''bridge=xenbr1'' ] So inside the DomU, eth0 was attached to xenbr0 on the host and eth1 was attached to xenbr1. Now i upgraded to

Samba as a PDC for W2K Network
Hi all. I hope someone here can help me with a bit of trouble I seem to be having with Samba and Windows 2000. Here's the deal: We are attempting to setup a Red Hat 7.3 machine (SYMPHONY2) running Samba 2.2.3a to act as a File Server and PDC for a number of Windows 2000 workstations. I have followed the instructions from http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection.html but
