...scripts to mount -o remount. I expected it would freshen the mount. Instead of doing a remount however, it appears to be mounting _over_ the original. Not really what I wanted. Any idea why it's doing this? I wanted to avoid doing an unmount then a mount, as some of these scripts may, on ocasion, be run in parallel. I know at least on local drives remounting while in use (at least for read operations), doesn't appear to cause problems.. Thanks, Kyle

Hello, I'm new to the list and pretty much a newbie to linux and samba. I'm quick learner though. I have been losing my samba share upon ocasion recently, below is a portion of the syslog from the time period that I think is when the share goes down. ...ound an error in my startup script, when I do mount -t ext3 /dev/hda5 /etc I forget to pass -n option to "mount" command, so the new /etc directory is replaced with a partition on a hard disk and /etc/mtab gets corrupted. I beleive this could happend because the file was accesed in some ocasion before "mount" by the ext3 code and placed in cache, so a mount without -n may write a corrupted data ... This only happends with /etc/mtab, other files maintain its integrity no mater of how much hard resets I do. I don't know if mounting with -n option will correct this proble...
