Re: ZFS hangs systems during copy
...#39;' ARC cache data structures keeps growing until the machine is running out of kernel memory. At this point the machine hangs, lots of kernel threads are waiting for free memory, and the box must be power cycled (Well, unpluging and re-connecting the type 5 keyboard works and gets me to the OBP, where I can force a system crashdump and reboot). status of zfs boot netinstall kit
I wanted to send out status on the effort to make a version of Solaris install available that supports zfs as a root file system. I''ve got a version of it ready for distribution, but I''d like to test it on the Build 62 community release before I make it available. Without the build 62 community release, I have to test it on a build 61 image, updated with some build 62 packages.

boot cdrom -w doesn''t work
...n Blade 2500 running nv_88. I want to install nv_94 with a mirrored zfs root filesystem. At the ok prompt, I entered boot cdrom -w so that I would get the test installer and could select zfs as the root filesystem. Unfortunately, I got the GUI installer and can not select a zfs root. I udated the OBP to the current level on the chance that the older rev was the cause. No joy. Any ideas? --ron This message posted from opensolaris.org

INSTALLING CENTOS SPARC
I'm trying to install CentOS SPARC on a Netra T1, but it boots from disk and i want to know how to enter the bios and set up that boots from cdrom. "no pool_props" for OpenSolaris 2009.06 with old SPARC hardware
Hi, yesterday evening I tried to upgrade my Ultra 60 to 2009.06 from SXCE snv_98. I can''t use AI Installer because OpenPROM is version 3.27. So I built IPS from source, then created a zpool on a spare drive and installed OS 2006.06 on it To make the disk bootable I used: installboot -F zfs /usr/platform/`uname -i`/lib/fs/zfs/bootblk /dev/rdsk/c0t1d0s0 using the executable from my new

Installing over network
Hi All, I see that sparc.centos.org does not contain any ISO's so that I can install from CD. How does one install over the internet? I have never done it before. I assume use the boot.iso and make sure that I have DHCP turned on so that I get an IP automatically from my router? Any advice? -Jason

Booting fails with `Can not read the pool label'' error
...nt in zfs`zfs_mountroot, and found that this happens because zfs_devid = spa_get_bootprop("diskdevid"); returns NULL. I''ve no idea how/why this can happen, and found no code in the OpenSolaris sources that sets diskdevid for SPARC, so I must assume that this is directly from OBP (there''s only some code in Grub, which of course is irrelevant here). Any suggestions what can cause this or what I''m doing wrong? There''s a second machine suffering from the same problem (a Sun Fire V880 serving as fileserver for the GCC-on-Solaris project), so it woul...

ZFS Pool Unavailable
Hello, I recently rebooted my workstation and the disk names changed causing my ZFS pool to be unavailable. I did not make any hardware changes? My first question is the obvious? Did I loose my data? Can I recover it? What would cause the names to change? Delay in the order that the HBA brought them up? How can I correct this problem going forward? Thanks - - - JesseJ -------------- next

Help with booting dom0 on a Dell 2950
Hi, I have installed b_78 on a Dell 2950 and booting to bare metal works fine but when I try to boot using the grub entry Solaris xVM it will boot to the point where it displays the uname info and then just stays there. It will not boot past that point. I have enabled VT technology in the BIOS (but only after the installation). Where/what can I look at to trouble shoot this? I am new to xen and

resilver of older root pool disk
This is a hypothetical question that could actually happen: Suppose a root pool is a mirror of c0t0d0s0 and c0t1d0s0 and for some reason c0t0d0s0 goes off line, but comes back on line after a shutdown. The primary boot disk would then be c0t0d0s0 which would have much older data than c0t1d0s0. Under normal circumstances ZFS would know that c0t0d0s0 needs to be resilvered. But in this case
