On the Use of the nnet Library
...ate the response to
the variance of each explanatory variable. Is there such a function in
the library, nnet? Such a function may help me reduce the number of the
explanatory variables.
I wonder if anyone could help me in such elementary questions.

pointers for using CentOS box as filter for children
...i realize this is a generalized question and that iptables and many other
things exist that could be implemented.
im looking for a way to give the youngster the benefit of the doubt and
allow them to "obey God/parents" first before they have to be totally
restricted after having been disobedient.
specifically we could do it two ways.
one is, that which is not expressly permitted is denied... and i would
prefer not to have to do it that way. it is too easy and may not allow for
the child to choose to be obedient to God/parents.
the other seems like it might be better, that which is not e...

install.packages, bundles, pmatch, and Rprofile...
Hi,
Somebody asked me to make sure that all the machines running the in our lab
(XP and Linux, both running 2.0) have R installed and that A) All the
packages are installed and B) kept up-to-date.
Obediently, I began to modify a shared Rprofile so that once a week it
checks for new packages and updates to the current version of the installed
packages on CRAN. Sounds simple enough. Plus some general conditioning
statements to make sure that this runs only once a week or so the logic I'm

Adding Foreman to an existing Puppet master
...will be grand
and wonderful again, if I simply copy & edit the answers file found at
/usr/share/foreman-installer/foreman_installer/answers.yaml.
I continued reading and then came across the following: "Other examples are
given in /usr/share/foreman-installer/README.md." Being the obedient-fellow
that I am, I went ahead and read the README file; because, at this point,
my biggest question is this:
If I, in the *answers.yaml* file, set the *puppet* and *puppetmaster* variables
> to *false*, do I need to go back once the Foreman install is finished and

package: ignores "source"; "provider" doesn''t work as advertised?
...edora core 5, the ³source² is ignored: yum is used to pull the package
from the upstream repos listed in yum.conf
I tried to fix this, by setting the provider to rpm (details from here
http://reductivelabs.com/projects/puppet/documentation/typedocs.html#package
), which I¹m hoping is a little more obedient:
class thttpd {
package { thttpd:

provider => rpm,
source =>
"http://dag.wieers.com/packages/thttpd/thttpd-2.25b-4.2.el4.rf.i386.rpm"
}
[snip]
}
But this generates an error on the server:

Forming a Linux tiger team.
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
In a recent message on this list someone proposed the idea of forming a
linux tiger team. I am interested in forming a team like this. Are there
any other interested people?
[mod: "someone" is Eric Allman. He was talking about a
sendmail-tiger-team, but as we are on the linux-security list right
now, a linux-tiger-team is the obvious move.... Michael

Strange winbindd situation
I set up winbindd last week on my Linux workstation. So far it's been
working just fine and I've been enjoying the benefits of being able to
connect to it with my NT user account. However, last week I noticed
that there were two or three new NT users in my '/home/winnt/DOMAIN'
directory that I *HADN'T* logged into this system with. I chalked it up
to a potential virus or

perform tasks outside a dial-plan (not during a call)
Hi all,
Can the Asterisk do ?things? not during a call? For example I would like to change my dial plan during certain hours\dates or I would like to check some information in the astdb (e.g. counters of al sort) and handle it as required and so on. All of this is not call-related therefore I don?t know if I can somehow do it using the dial-plan applications\functions. I know I can do chron jobs
