smbmount for Solaris
Sirs,
I hate to clutter your email with this inquiry, but I haven't been able to
get info otherwise. I want to mount shares on an Microsoft XP Pro server
on two Suns, Sparc running Solaris 2.6 and another Sparc running Solaris
8. What do I need for this?? I downloaded the Samba software from
sunfreeware.com but it seemed to just allow the XP to mount the Sun shares.
I hope you can help

Accessing PC from Unix
Can someone point me to an FAQ, or tell me how to access shared PC
drives from Solaris 8?
I've heard of the smbclient thing - does this allow seamless access - ie
can I run this, then say cd /sharedpc/c/somefolder?
Thanks for any help

x filemanager
Hi there,
I've got two questions, and I'll list them in order of importance. (1) Is
there a way, or is there any research/development going into unearthing a way,
to mount a samba filesystem like any other filesystem under UNIX?
And (2), does anyone know of a good X filemanager? What I would really
like to do is be able to mount a Samba directory or resource and treat
it like any

freebsd and smbmount
Hi,
I don't know how many people on this list use samba with freebsd , but I
have a question.
I have samba set up and can connect to my other win conputers using
smbclient but I am told that freebsd does not have smbmount.
i need to mount my win hard drives in order to back them up.
Is this possible some way with samba under freebsd.
Thanks
Rick

"because you dance to disco and you don't like rock" [Win2000 vs Samba/Linux]
Hey,
so i finally got it working thanks to your list (found the right
place for EnablePlainTextPassword here, the existing 3-4 matches
in the default registry don't seem to do a thing).
It was all brilliant. I got connected to all my 4 samba servers.
I was happy... 'til the next boot (you know, during installation
of system, boots happen).
Now it connects to 3 sambas (1 on FreeBSD, 1 on

...ering if there were a project to port smbmount to
OpenBSD.
I have already learned that smbmount is not part of the samba-2.0.9
package for OpenBSD. I also know that nearly the same thing is done by
the sharity-light-1.2 package for OpenBSD. As far as I have seen on the
sharity-web-page (http://www.obdev.at/Products/Sharity.html) this
product is not OpenSource. (It has some other disadvantages, but never
mind.)
Thus my question: is there a project anywhere to port smbmount to
OpenBSD? If yes, how is the progress? Can I help? If no, does anyone
maybe know the reason?
cHEERS,

Hello Ian,
There is also a product called Sharity that runs on various different Unix
platforms that would allow you to mount an NT share to a unix fs. You can
read about it and what versions of Unix they support at http://www.obdev.at
.
Also, if you happen to be using HP-UX, the 11.0 release of HP-UX comes with
a product called CIFS/9000 Client, which will do the same thing. or you can
download it from http://software.hp.com under the network and system
management
section. But it only installs on HP-UX 11.0 and later os re...
