R on Windows crashes when using certain characters in strings in data frames (PR#14125)

I originally discovered this (or a related?) bug while using 'unique' on a data
frame similar to the 'd' data frame defined above, where R would often, but not
always, crash.

Kerning issues with CairoPDF

Can anyone reproduce it? Any ideas what's causing it, if it's possible
to fix it, or if just a bug in CairoPDF. I remember a kerning-related
change in R 2.9.0. Could that be related?

plot.POSIXct uses wrong x axis (PR#14016)
...p for the generic, ?plot, does. And it seems
reasonable that it should be. Also plot(POSIXct.variable) does produce a
'correct' plot, except for the labels on the x axis.

Border width on symbols plotted with the lattice package
...the *legend* has the 'lwd'
correctly applied.
How can I fix this? Or is it simply a bug in the 'lattice' package?
