samba_dns_question
Hai Rowland,
I think you are mixing a few settings.
http://www.zytrax.com/books/dns/ch7/queries.html#additional-from-auth
additional-from-auth yes | no ;
additional-from-cache yes | no ;
And
www.zytrax.com/books/dns/ch7/queries.html#auth-nxdomain
auth-nxdomain yes | no;
If auth-nxdomain is 'yes' allows the server to answer authoritatively (the
AA bit is set)
when returning NXDOMAIN (domain does not exist) answers,
if 'no' (the default) the server will not answer authoritatively.
And

SERVFAIL <=> NXDOMAIN
...r to
delegate authority back to registry.
For a successful use of this transaction all nameserver-entries for the
zone will be deleted by our application before nic-order will be sent to
nic.at.
Nic.at now checks all nameserver for existing entries for affected zone.
If all nameservers return a NXDOMAIN (Bind) everything is fine.
Our NSD nameservers return the status SERVFAIL. Nic.at interprets this
return-code as an error and does not finish this transaction completely.
Is it possible to return a NXDOMAIN instead of a SERVFAIL? Are there
different possibilities how this point can be resolved?...

Village Idiot (esq) again: My DNS is not working
I spoke too soon in my last email. My DNS is not working.
The host commands from the AD DC how-to all fail with NXDOMAIN.
nslookup says server can't find nikola.ozco.home. Basically the same
message.
Here is a dump of my many tries.

samba internal dns doesn't return NXDOMAIN (bug 12464)
Hello,
I'm using samba 4 with the internal dns. I'm following the instructions
here
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/configuring-networks-disable-dns-over-https
to configure my dns server to return NXDOMAIN for use-application-dns.net.
If I query the server directly it returns NXDOMAIN, but if I query samba
I get an empty answer instead (192.168.90.29 is configured as dns
forwarder for both DCs):
luca at seis:~$ host use-application-dns.net 192.168.90.29

NXDOMAIN on forwarded DNS requests for non-existant names
Hi all,
I have a Samba 4.1.6 domain controller set up with SAMBA_INTERNAL for DNS.
When I make a DNS query for a host name that doesn?t exist, but that Samba
would be authoritative for, I get the expected NXDOMAIN. But when I make
a DNS query that Samba forwards to a recursive DNS server, again for a
host that doesn?t exist, I simply get an empty response. I've verified
that the recursive server is returning NXDOMAIN, while Samba returns
NOERROR (see below). This yields funny behavior with the ...

Yes no Cache disabled.
BIND will follow out-of-zone records but since this requires the cache (which is disabled) the net result is the same -
BIND will return REFUSED for the out-of-zone record.
Note REFUSED and NXDOMAIN.

Hai,
Since your getting.
finddcs: No matching server found
> ERROR: Invalid IP address '3(NXDOMAIN)'!
There is something wrong in the base of you setup.
Check all DC's for ipnumbers (A) and PTR records.
Dont forget to create the reverse zone yourself.

Hai,
As Rowland said also, your config looks better the we often see.. :-)
I can only see one thing thats little off in bind is the auth-nxdomain.
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Setting_up_a_BIND_DNS_Server
Shows auth-nxdomain yes;
You ADDC is the Authoritive DNS server for your domains so i suggest turn it on.
