Timer doesn't appear to start
I only pasted a subset of my upsmon.conf. NOTIFYCMD is in my upsmon.conf AFA nutmon user. I was trying different things I had the directory as nutmon nut but changed it to nutmon nutmon to see if that worked. It didn't make a difference. Sorry about the digest this. I needed to hit a line in gmail web client to see the subject line. Know I know. Thanks for the heads up.. [ro...

One last update. I needed to log out and in to get the group add of my user nutmon to be recognized. My permissions are now root:nut on upssched.conf and it works. Timer doesn't appear to start
The time and upssched-cmd are now working. Here are the issues I had: 1) Did not define NOTIFYCMD in upsmon.conf Added NOTIFYCMD /sbin/upssched 2) Added +EXEC to NOTIFYMSG rules I am using 3) Change ownership of upssched.conf to my nut user nutmom. I had added nutmon to the group nut but it didn't work. Thanks again for all your guidance On Tue, Jan 28, 2020 at 7:00 AM <nut-upsuser-request at alioth-lists.debian.net> wrote: > Send Nut-upsuser mailing list submissions to > nut-upsuser at alioth-lists.debian.net > > To subscribe o...

usbmon fails silently to start with invalid RUN_AS_USER values
Hi. I have an improvement suggestion. Say that a careless user starts editing upsmon.conf before having read the complete documentation (not that I know of any such users of course) and starts by adding "RUN_AS_USER = nutmon" and then creates this user. Later he discovers that the rpm package already has created a "nut" user and therefore deletes the nutmon user but forgets to update upsmon.conf. In this case usbmon will fail silently to start up, without any clues why. Please add some code to usbmon to...

bestfortress driver establishes/loses/establishes communication and so on...
...ndows 7. But not so with Ubuntu and nut. After several hurdles I managed to get nut start flawlessly (although I always have to do upsdrvctl start und /etc/init.d/nut start manually, but that is just another [reported] bug, upstart doesn't start some daemons). Btw., the last hurdle was that nutmon did not want to start without its own user, nutmon, which was not setup by the package. The problem is that soon after nut started successfully, communication to the UPS is lost, with "data stale". After some minutes, communication gets re-established. Then lost again and so on and on...

ownership of pid directory
...1500AVR, within reach of its serial cable and I'm trying to get nut running here. I'm going nuts. Basically, I copied the OpenBSD configuration over to the FreeBSD system and tried to put everything in the right place. It looked like the FreeBSD port wants to run as user uucp rather than nutmon, so I changed ups.conf and upsmon.conf accordingly and tried changing the ownership of everything to uucp. upsdrvctl still complains that it "Can't chdir to /var/db/nut: Permission denied" The directory exists and is owned by both user and group uucp. What does it want? -- David B...

NOTIFYCMD shell script problem driving me NUTS
Either I am missing something or I am really STUPID. 1. I have added a user, named nutmon, to the nut group. 2. In upsmon.conf I have set RUN_AS_USER nutmon . 3. I have NOTIFYCMD /etc/nut/notifyme.sh and it is set as 755, so should be executable by everyone. 4. I have the NOTIFYFLAG set as SYSLOG+WALL+EXEC, so the shell should execute. This is the shell script : #!/bin/bash # # NUT NO...
