nullfs changes MFC
Hi,
I am going to merge latest batch of the nullfs improvements into
stable/9. This will bring up significant performance enchancements due
to use of the shared locks for lookups if the lower layer supports it,
much better caching on the nullfs layer, and proper handling of the text
segments on the nullfs. Also, it should improve the error recovery...

FreeBSD 9.1 MAC Multilabel on nullfs
Hi List!
Don't see much discussion about MAC here, time to change that! :-)
Currently trying to set up a service jail, according to instructions in
the handbook[1]. The problem I'm facing is that nullfs does not seem to
support multilabeled filesystems, or am i missing something?

Mounting devfs over to ZFS from fstab fails
...'s
STABLE- but not anymore.
The boot process fails with something like WARNING: $true wasn't set,
see man rc.conf (or something similar, I don't have the exact error
message, but I can reproduce if it's needed), and the problem is that
the rc scripts try to mount the devfs (and nullfs) stuff to the yet
unmounted ZFS, so /pool/jail/ldap/dev doesn't exist.
If I create them on the root filesystem, the OS boots up fine, but of
course I don't have the devfs's mounted onto ZFS, they are beneath it
(umount and mount -a solves the issue). There is a similar problem with...

I stream read - stale NFS file handle
Hi,
I am running dovecot/postfix/amavisd within a jail on freebsd. I have a
nullfs mounted within the jail that links back to an NFS server.
I am constantly getting these errors and my mail never gets delivered. I
am hoping someone has a fix for me!

10.0-RC1: bad mbuf leak?
...em(4).
Things I've tried:
- restarting all software/services including the jail
- down/up the network interface
The only thing that works is rebooting.
Also, the only possible "strange" part of this setup is that the NFS
mounts used by the jail are not direct. They're actually nullfs mounted
into the jail as I want access to them outside of the jail as well. Not
sure if nullfs+nfs could do something this bizarre.
If anyone has any hints on what I can do to track this down it would be
appreciated.

(9.2) panic under disk load (gam_server / knlist_remove_kq)
9.2 PRERELEASE (today) / amd64
Hello,
I'm seeing a panic while trying to build a poudriere repository.
As far I can see it always happens when gam_server is started (ie xfce is
running) and under disk load (poudriere bulk build) :
(That is something new, the box was pretty stable)
the complete crash dump (core.0.txt) is here:

9.2-RC4 amd64 panic: vm_page_unwire
I'm running 9.2-RC4 on a handful of desktop and server machines (both
i386 and amd64). I have seen three panics (all vm_page_unwire) on one
of those systems only (amd64 server) during the past week.
The first two panics were triggered when shutting down the ntpd daemon
(a recent development snapshot version of ntpd: 4.2.7p387). Exiting a
later release (p388) has not triggered the panic.

Feature request: allow chrooted directory writable by others
Hello, I am trying to setup a file server using the SFTP protocol with OpenSSH.
I am in trouble because sshd refuses to chroot to a directory that is
writable by users other than the owner. I guess that this is to
prevent someone else from creating a .ssh/authorized_keys file and
impersonate the user. But we have configured an alternative
AuthorizedKeysFile. I also understand that a chroot user

...expected to be low traffic.
You can sign up for the new list at:
https://lists.FreeBSD.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-ops-announce
The kind of issues we expect to announce on the new list is:
* svn0.us-west.FreeBSD.org and svnweb.FreeBSD.org are currently having
performance issues due to pressing nullfs harder than most normal
people do (a bugfix is in the works).
* We now have SSL/TLS certificates for HTTPS on www.FreeBSD.org,
wiki.FreeBSD.org, svnweb.FreeBSD.org, and lists.FreeBSD.org.
* wiki.FreeBSD.org now redirects all users to HTTPS, so all traffic is
encrypted.

Samba 4 is half as fast as Samba 3?!
...of ~110MB/Sec with
Samba 3 and only ~45 MB/Sec with Samba 4? With such a mega-drop in
performance Samba 4 seems not to be an alternative for me? :( :(
I wonder what I could have done wrong? I'm running Samba 3 and 4 in
seperate FreeBSD 10 jails identically configured. The shared filesystem
is nullfs mounted into each jail. The Filesystem on the jails Host is a
ZFS raidz. Bonnie++ can write to it with ~150MB/Sec. I tried following
configure switches so far:
- with and without aio support
- with or without debug symbols in the compiled binaries (had it on by
default)

Secure shared web hosting using MAC Framework
Hi all,
I am looking at securing a web server using the FreeBSD MAC Framework.
To make things clear I will call the hosted users "web users". Those are the issues I am dealing with:
** Network Security **
- Web users shouldn't be able to connect to reserved local ports apart from 25(smtp); 80(http); 443(https) and 3306(MySQL)
Solution:
run the web server and web users shell in
