Or am I restricted to using /etc/passwd for this sort of management, with
disabled unix login password fields and /bin/false as a login shell for
these users?
Cheers .

astcc with multiple access
I'm looking at astcc and it seems that setting up a script that will
allow multiple people to access a calling card simultaneously would be
fairly difficult. Before I endevour to develop this, has anyone already
done it/looked at this/can point me in the right direction?
Thanks.

Filtering which identities are forwarded by ssh-agent to a given host
Howdy,
I'm looking for a way to restrict which ssh keys are forwarded to a
given remote host because we have several ssh domains. That is, I have
two keys which I use throughout the day:
.ssh/network-a-2014-10-12
.ssh/network-b-2014-11-22
I need to forward my network A key to the ssh gateway host for Network A
to allow me to log into hosts on the other side of the gateway but I

portmap vulnerability?
Are there any known vulnerabilities in portmap (redhat''s
portmap-4.0-7b)? I''ve been receiving a lot of attempts to access the
portmap port on some linuxppc machines I administer by various
machines which clearly have no business with mine, and I wonder if
this is an attempt to break in to my machines.
I''ve searched some archives, but I haven''t yet found any

Upgrade from 2.2.8a to 3.0.1 issues
...e IP address of the Windows PDC, which does password authentication, is
correct.
In both 2.2.8a and 3.0.1, Samba was built with a default call to
./configure, without any arguments.
Anyone have any comments or suggestions? Thank you in advance.

adding nologin shells to /etc/shells
...a daemon heavily wrapped in /etc/hosts.{allow,deny}
But this approach still begs the question about allowing ftp access
and, according to the sendmail FAQ, the security holes this is
supposed to create.
Cheers

:limit text mysql
I have a rails 3.rc app that I''m developing. I have a text entry in one
my models that can sometimes be quite big. I tried setting :limit =>
4294967296 on the text column in my migration file but this doesn''t seem
to have any effect. The column is till created as a TEXT column rather
than MEDIUMTEXT or LONGTEXT.
Does anyone have any idea why this might be happening? Is there

Strange error when running rails 2.3 on ruby 1.9.1 on FreeBSD
I am trying to run rails on FreeBSD 7.1. I''ve already installed Ruby
1.9.1 (from ports), apache, passenger (edge version from git), Rails
2.3 RC 1 (using gem --source like described on the
weblog.rubyonrails.org). Everything installed smoothly and I am able
to run ruby 1.9.1 programs. The problem is when I try to run rails. It
fails with this error:

FreeBSD Security Survey
Dear FreeBSD users and system administrators,
While the FreeBSD Security Team has traditionally been very good at
investigating and responding to security issues in FreeBSD, this only
solves half of the security problem: Unless users and administrators
of FreeBSD systems apply the security patches provided, the advisories
issued accomplish little beyond alerting potential attackers to the

PDFKit javascript issues
I also posted this on stackoverflow so apologises for cross posting but
I think this is probably a better home for this post.
I have been looking into using PDFKit to generate pdf reports for a Rail
3 app I''m working on. Basically if I use PDFKit as middleware any page
in the app is nicely rendered to a pdf including the javascript
generated graphs.
However, I want to use a different
