...h patch) ? Any experience? I saw the following from Ben's VLAN site: I hear that the 2.2/2.4 kernel patches have worked with these (and other, I'm sure) systems: * Cisco: {Catalyst: 6509}, 3Com: {Corebuilder, Netbuilder II, SuperStack II switch 630}, Alpine: {3804(SMMi,F32Ti)} Extreme Ntwks {Summit 48, 48i, 5i} Foundry: {ServerIronXL, FastIron} * Alteon ACENic Gigabit, 3Com 3c509, realtek RTL8029(AS), RTL8139, DEC DC21140 (tulip), DFE-570TX quad-21143, Intel PRO/1000 with Intel's driver As my understanding, the above NICs can support VLAN tag, just same as the e100/e1000 card,...

Attaching Samba to NT domain
...ndrake 5.3 (basically an improved Red-Hat 5.2) and the default kernel 2.0.36. I followed the HowTos, using Swat in a manner I thought successful. Doesn't work. Have no Wins server, using DHCP (successful), caching DNS only (using ISP's for real work). Network consists of PDC, BDC and hybrid NTwks/98 clients. NT servers are all SP4 and some of the NT clients too. ALL run NetBEUI (for security reasons) and most TCP/IP (only 1 segment). PDC runs both protocols, BDC runs NB only (file server). Samba server isn't seen by master browser. Smbclient -L SambaMachine asks for password and whateve...

macro subsitution inconsistancies
...John Blair, and other stuff, %U is the username that NT sends for the session, and it is always defined (unlike %u, which is only defined in a share context, but I didn't need to tell you that :) ). This works great, does exactly what I want, the first time I open up the samba machine from the NTWKS (SP3, btw), but if I open the onlyabakun share, it says it doesn't exist, and if I traverse into a share that everyone has (that is, defined directly in the /etc/smb.conf file), then refresh the share list, the shares I defined in the include file disappear. I tracked this down, using the debu...
