migration of PDC tdbsam backend to BDC - failed to fetch domain database
Hello
According to NT4 Migration Using tdbsam Backend
http://samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/ntmigration.html#id2604610 I
would like to transfer PDC settings (users, groups sids) to BDC and later
make from BDC PDC machine.
I have Fedora Core 7 PDC(hostname serwer) and Centos 5.4 BDC (hostname
serwer2) both on tdbsam backends.
I have copied smb.conf, passwd,group,shadow,secrets.tdb files from FC7

NT4 Migration
Hi,
I am in the process of attempting a NT4 Domain to Samba migration
(3.2.5). I have been following the instructions at
http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/ntmigration.html. I am
using an ldap backend. I am not convinced everything is set-up
correctly.
Before I began I removed all /var/lib/samba/*tdb and shutdown smb and ldap.
At point 13 where you do `getent group` the Domain groups do not
appear. They exist in the ldap tree ou=Groups.
I have the joined the s...

strategies to run two NT4 domains or merge them on one samba host
...as anything fancy about it: users and joined workstations,
but no trusts, almost no groups (could be re-created manually easily).
a) I want to upgrade at least DOMAIN30 to a samba v3.5. And preferrably
have one user base and one domain NEWDOMAIN.
https://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/ntmigration.html
explains "If you want to merge multiple NT4 domain account databases into
one Samba domain", that I can merge user and machine accounts from
different domains into one, right?
But how can I make existing machine joined to DOMAIN30 to contact
NEWDOMAIN? Is is possible to merge two...

PDC cannot become master browser; cannot change passwords
I am having two problems, possibly related, while performing
pre-deployment testing of a Samba/OpenLDAP PDC with data that was
vampired from an NT4 PDC. The Samba server fails to become a local
master browser, and password change attempts (from a Windows client) fail.
I followed Samba-Guide/ntmigration.html (taking some liberties with
various items of configuration), ending with step #19. No problems were
encountered.
I isolated the server and a client on a separate network, promoted Samba
to a PDC (step #21), and started the Samba daemons.
On the closed network are the following machines:...

NT4 PDC -> Samba/LDAP PDC failing to work
...y NT4 domain to a samba server which uses an
LDAP server on the backend for authentication
This machine that I want to be the new PDC is running RHEL5 with samba
3.0.23c and an openldap 2.3.27 running on the same machine.
I used the by-example page
http://us3.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/ntmigration.html
as my guide
I set this up in a test environment first and it worked seamlessly.
Then I tried it out on the production environment........
My problems arose when I shut down the NT4 controllers and my samba
server became the PDC. The samba machine became the PDC, but I was not
able to log...

Is the net rpc vampire at all destructive to a NT4 PDC?
Reading through the Samba3 -By Example guide and I'm confused with the
statement section 9.2
http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/ntmigration.html#id2594565
about accessing the SAM and Security sections of the registry will render
the PDC non operable.
Its clear from the text if you go and edit the registry(regedit etc..) so
you can read the entries your PDC will not work.
What's not exactly clear is if any of the tools like net rcp...

Urgent - Password Migration from WINNT 4.0 to Samba-LDAP
...without affecting users. I can re-set the passwords using
smbldap-passwd but its a big pain to contact every user asking for
their passwords.
All the test migration have been done by following instructions on a
document available on Samba by Example
(http://us3.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/ntmigration.html#id2584506).
Any one's help in solving this issue is higly appreciated.
Thanks

net rpc vampire not working
Hi,
Can someone help me get "net rpc vampire" in one of its forms working.
The objective is to migrate from an NT4 PDC to a SAMBA 3.0 PDC using
LDAP as a back end. I am trying to migrate the user and machine accounts
across in a lab environment, separate from the main network (I have
replicated the PDC to do this).
I have samba-3.0.20b built from the samba team source RPM on Fedora

Samba - Cups - WinXP SP2 Client
Hi All,
I have a samba Server 3.0.14 installed on Ubuntu. I also have cups
1.1.23 installed.
I have migrated an existing nt4 domain using this howto:

Samba is my PDC now, and no more windows servers are on the net.
I have a network Printer Kyocera 1800+ Mita which is correctly
configured via cups. I have preconfigured 3 Printers on for each paper
feed, so Users just have to connect to the printer and then be able to

SeBackupPrivilege
We're using Samba 3.0.21a-1 on a CentOS 4.2 server (kernel
2.6.9-22.0.2.ELsmp); everything works more or less fine,
it's functioning as the PDC with an OpenLDAP back end (setup
essentially straight from the Idealx.org playbook), etc.
We're trying to mount Windows shares to back them up, and
getting "permission denied" errors when trying to read
certain files from those
