edited tdb... restart samba?
I had to remove reference to some printer drivers
via tdbtool on ntdrivers.tdb.
1. Do I need to restart smbd and nmbd to make these
changes take effect?
2. If I restart smbd and nmbd will connected users get
disconnected?

ntprinters.tdb and ntdrivers.tdb
Hello,
I am trying to migrate a samba printing server (with cups). (3.0.10fc3) by
renaming it
localhost=drlinux=the test machine
newscribe=the production machine
I did the following operations :
1/ Install a basic samba and cups
2/ copy all the configuration files and other from our running samba to our
test server (including all tdb files ..)
3/ Adding the new server to the domain net rpc join

what are *.tdb files?
In /varcache/samba/ I have several .tdb files. Like brlock.tdb,
locking.tdb, ntdrivers.tdb, etc. Excusing my ignorance, what are these
files, and what do they do? And why must they be copied when migrating
from one samba server to a new one?

PDC migration: printing trouble.
Hi all,
we've been moving an old Samba 2.2.x PDC install to a Samba 3.0.28 PDC
install. We copied the ntdrivers.tdb and ntprinters.tdb from to old to the new
server. After the migration, everything was just fine, except printing seemed
to be somewhat slower. As more and more user logged on, the machine got really
sluggish and printing took quite long. We figured out we've got bitten by:

Printer Migration hackery
...he cvs once and got REALLY scared.
Unfortunately, I can't wait, so I've come up with a nasty hack to help us
with querying samba for the details of installed printer drivers.
It's filthy nasty perl, not really fit for human consumption, but it
works. For now at least. If the format of ntdrivers.tdb changes, or if
samba stops using it, this won't work anymore.
This is a first hack. The LDIF style output is not right. But the info is
there. Hopefully it will be of some use to some people.
One question for the samba team though:
When I run 'strings' against ntdrivers.tdb, I g...

Problem installing printer drivers in Samba
...the
correct drivers installed and it offers to install the drivers on my
Windows client.
It is mentionned in the documentation above that Samba should keep a
database of which driver corresponds to which printer. It could not
see any such database, at least not in the .tdb files, I cannot find
any ntdrivers.tdb in the Samba private directory.
I have set-up Samba with LDAP, is this supposed to go into LDAP?
I am lost here.
TIA.

Print driver settings
...e've installed a samba-printserver at a customer using a large number
of Nashuatec-printers. Most of them are Optra T164, formerly known as
NRG P6025 PS3. In our setup we defined 1 user (printadmin) which manages
all printers. All printusers are mapped to guest. User printadmin installed
the printdrivers on the server and the clients download the driver during
their first connection. So far everything works fine: everybody can print
and download the drivers.
But we also need to configure the driver: some printers have extra trays or
an optional duplex module. That doesn't work: the settings ar...

Making nt_printer.tdb from tdbtool?
...k with ten offices and about 150 printers.
All printing is PostScript and goes to HP and Canon printers
over lpd through custom 'if' filters which do accounting.
To help this we're trying to automate the printer and
driver registration processes, in particular make the
nt_printers.tdb, ntdrivers.tdb (and ntforms.tdb?) files
from some kind of textual config file which might look like
this:
pr-london1: hp2200
pr-newyork3: hp4000
...
Our goal is to bring our printing in line with our other
configuration management, which has a central server
of configs for routers, servers and so on. T...

Using rpcclient to install printer drivers
...client and my question is, can anyone supply examples of how they did
this, particular if you have scripted it? Clearly, I can copy the driver
binaries to the correct Windows architecture directory defined with a path
expression in print$, but what I am looking for is a way to correctly
update ntdrivers.tdb, which seems to be the key ingredient to getting Samba
to download drivers to PC clients. And just to be clear, my problem is not
defining Samba printers, I can do that in my sleep. The problem really is
managing the drivers so that they download transparently to each PC when

Administering samba locally without opening root to the net?

What I'm trying to find is a password-less equivalent of

Also, previously samba used ntprinters.tdb and ntdrivers.tdb
with quite simple structure. So it was possible to install
a printer to samba server from a windows box, dump the newly
created entries from ntprinters.tdb and insert similar entries
(by changing printer name and a few other similar things) to

Clustered Samba Printing
Hi Folks,
I'm part of a Novell department that is working on
moving from Novell NDPS printing to Samba printing.
I have been told that the Samba environment will
have to be clustered to assure the same level of
redundancy for printing.
Does anyone have any pointers? Whether actual
experience in this or a location of good
documentation of the clustering process?
Thanks for
