NT_STATUS_MEDIA_WRITE_PROTECTED
Greetings, I am having trouble writing to my Samba share
"//ent1/data". When I connect via smbclient from another machine, I
can navigate and read files, but I can't create a directory or replace
any files; smbclient prints the message:
"NT_STATUS_MEDIA_WRITE_PROTECTED making remote directory \test"
Incidentally, it *used* to work fine until I upgraded my Ubuntu
Desktop to 8.0.4LTS.
My other server, running Ubuntu 8.0.4 Server Edition, hosts a Samba
server known as "//prod1/private". I *am* able to write to that
share.
So I tried copying that s...

"normal" pop up and one that is easily understood by the end user.
When using samba 4.10.16, the error in the logs generated
is NT_STATUS_MEDIA_WRITE_PROTECTED. The UI generates a pop up stating "An
unexpected error is keeping you from creating the folder. If you continue
to receive this error, you can use the error code to search for help with
this problem. Error 0x8000FFFF: Catastrophic failure". This sounds much

As you can see from the directory listing above, the directory of course

This seems to me to indicate that it is trying to do a SID to UID translation for the wrong (empty) domain. In that context, it makes a certain amount of sense that it can't connect to any login servers (I assume it looks for DCs for the domain '', can't find them, and fails). S...

Who may delete a file ?
Hi All,
I was checking the access rights and a problem (hence a question)
appeared: Who can delete a file through Samba ?
Suppose we have the following situation:
drwxrwxrwx john finance directory
-rw-r--r-- jack finance directory/file
Under unix everyone can delete the file.
Under Samba, the documentation says (due to the Windows sementic) you
also need the write access to the
