Hi,
I'm using PXELinux (on Windows NT5.x, with Windows NT5.x tftpd and the

This works well here since more than 10 years now.
Recently I created a subdirectory "syslinux" in my "tftpboot" ... and

Samba as an NT5 (Win2K) PDC
Hi
I am trying to find someone who can help me with configuring samba as a
Win2k PDC, I have read various How-TO's and the online reference material
but some of it has conflicting advice. I wondered if someone who has
actually managed to configure and uses samba as a Win2k PDC and logon server
could email me to help me with this issue.

Re: mapping printers from 2K and XP
...try to check on the remote spool (on the samba
machine) for status afaik so as long as you're not checking your spool
out as root you can't check status if you doon't have read permission in
the spooldir. If you don't want to set permission you can map the
printer to an lpt port in NT5 or disable spoolss in samba (smb.conf)
afaik, all of this will make NT5 look at the printers through the lanman
protocol (which is the same as the protocol win9x uses) and that uses
local spooling or at least not look at the remote spoolstatus. Please
correct me if I'm wrong anyone :).

Join 2012 Server R2 as member to NT domain
Is it still possible to join a Windows 2012 Server R2 system as a member
to a 'pre-NT5' Samba (3.6.23) domain controller? The Windows 'Domain
Change' GUI errors immediately after failing the SRV lookup for the AD
server. Even with the SRV record in place, the GUI fails trying to
connect to the non-existent LDAP port.

Project Cascade?
Hi all. I was wondering if anyone has heard of the new Sun product called
Project Cascade? You can find more information about it at a link
directly off the main sun.com page.
I'm curious as to whether or not it will be as good as samba, and if
people are going to think that an equivilent hasn't been around for quite
some time...

Using rpcclient or samedit to randomise trust account passwords
...ceptable risk: any captured network traffic can be decoded simply
from knowing the name of the workstation, which is contained in the
network traffic itself. the initial value _is_ changed to a random
value... using the initial value as the key to obfuscate the new value.
this _has_ been fixed in nt5: the initial value is *totally* random. i
can only confirm this for workstations-joining-domains, i haven't set up
an nt5 BDC in an nt4 domain to check if that uses a totally random
password or a well-known one.

Yes, at least for Win7 Pro.
You have to disable DNS lookups.

NT 5.0b2 & Samba 2.0 Alpha
All,
I don't see anything in the digests about this, but I just
wanted to mention that Samba 2.0Alpha doesn't work with NT5.0b2. It
works fine with Samba1.9.18p10. From what I can tell, it has to do
with the nttrans code. I turned the debugging up to 10 and the error
that I see is in the nt_open_pipe() routine (this is in 2.0alpha).
NT5.0 tries to open a pipe "*\." which nttrans doesn't know about....

Subject: Samba, quotas and disk capacity?
Hi,
We have Samba 2.0.5 on HP-UX 11.00 with a 100 Gig partition
and quotas.
When I use a NT4 or NT5 client and show the disk capacity of the
mounted Samba share the disk capacity of the whole disk is
reported (100 Gig and not just 300 MB of the quota).
Is there a way that Samba reports the current quota of the mounted
Samba share? The option
max disk size = <megabytes>
is not approp...
