Icecast 2.2.0 RC1 Announcement
Looks like I missed a config file entry for the shoutcast-compat.xml,
you'll need to add :
<shoutcast-mount>/stream.nsv</shoutcast-mount>
to your config. It needs to exist at the main root level... for context
here is where I have it :
<directory>

Winamp 0% Buffering mp3 streams

Hi, thanks for the quick answer. We are serving the mp3s with .nsv endings
since that is what the oddcast plugin seems to send by default when mp3 is
used and no mount point specified (it then sends with "live.nsv" if I
remember this correctly). Should Winamp be able to handle .nsv or should I
change this to .mp3 f.i.?

Yes: the elements of the SV-component of the model returned by svm() are
grouped by class, and the number of SV are stored in the nSV component.
So you should get the start indices with sth. like
cumsum(c(1,model$nSV)).

NSV Problems
For some reason using the 2.3.0 Version I can no longer stream Nullsoft Video.
I have the correct tags in the config file but for some reason the server will not accept the connection from the encoder.
I started up shoutcast DSP and it streams fine so I know it's not the encoder itself.
Anyone else seeing this or can tell me how to fix it?

I think what they're trying to do here is not only block non-SCDNAS
servers, but also as many non-Shoutcast sources as they can. Think about
it - if you're streaming MP3Pro without it being NSV-encapsulated, you're
not using a Nullsoft tool to do it.
This kind of one-eyed behaviour will hopefully push people in the direction
of finding alternatives.

NSV and VP3
Hi,
Quick note: In case anyone has not heard, Nullsoft, the people
behind Winamp, have seen fit to develop their own multimedia container
format. It can hold any kind of data, but their primary codecs are MP3 for
audio and VP3 for video:
http://www.nullsoft.com/nsv/
I and a few other people are still working out the details of the format:

Accumulating latency in nsv stream
Greetings:
We have a problem with accumulating latency in a 1 fps nsv video
stream; the delay is about 5 sec. when the stream is first mounted
but after about 10 hours it is up to 1/2 hour and after 24 hours
it is almost an hour (no frames are dropped, a client viewing the
stream just sees video delayed by those amounts).

Ogg doesn't measure up?!
...ically a video container format. Can be used
for files or streaming. Though it can use any audio video formats
internally currently it is just VP3/MP3 (or VP5/MP3, but that's internal
only and not publicly available). Basically video for the next version of
SHOUTcast.

NSV?
so when the source client logs in, it lies to icecast, saying it's an
mp3 stream? (as icecast won't accept anything else, but mp3 or ogg
vorbis...)

Ogg doesn't measure up?!
...plications would be able to play back the audio,
including our most popular players (Winamp, iTunes, and RealPlayer,
respectively.)
In the end, Ogg didn't measure up as our best candidate. We still
think Ogg is a worthwhile codec, and as such SHOUTcast-streamable
support for it is available via NSV.
While I can't yet announce the precise codec we'll be using for the
next 3 year run, I will say it is making me very happy to see 56kbps
streams outperforming (from a purely subjective "quality" analysis)
current 128kbps streams, and the cost of the encoding seems manageable
