Fedora Core2 / Samba / Ldap / smbldap-tools - No account in Domain.
...sed the Samba-OpenLdap Howto version 1.6 to setup the LDAP
server / ACL / Samba etc. Everything is identical to the Idealx setup,
except the the workstation accounts are in the same tree as the normal
users (as a previous suggestion and many other emails on newgroups) Also
one ACL is changed to let nssldap see the loginShell.
I know it's not Sign or Seal - Samba 3 doesn't need this reg hack in
place (it is in place anyway from a previous Samba 2 connection)
Fedora question -
When I configure the system to use ldap with authconfig I can't login it
says no such user. The fix for this is...

Samba 3 PDC and ADS member server
I've been reading some documentation and can't find an answer to my
question...
I work in an environment where we have a bunch of Solaris 2.8 servers and
a bunch of developers using Windows 2000 and XP desktops. We support a
client using a Windows 2000 Server ADS PDC, and they need to map some of
the NFS drives on our Solaris 2.8 servers. Currently we run a PCNetLink

smbcontrol
All,
I want to be able to disconnect a user from a samba share. I'm using
Samba 2.2.8a on Solaris 8. If I'm reading OReilly correctly, I should
be able to use smbcontrol with the SMBD process id of the user who has
the share mounted. Here's an example:

Samba 3 Domain XP Pro hangs for after logon
Hi there,
I have a a smaba 3 Domain with and openldap backend + pamldap+nssldap.
Everything works well except after an xp client logs on the client hangs for
about 2 minutes and then caries on and everything is fine. This problem
occurs after log on before the user's desktop loads. Seems to just timeout
for a while. This is well before the log on script runs. I've disa...

template homedir question
Hello All,
I'm integrating an existing unix environment into an exist AD
environment. I'm thinking of switching from nssldap to nss_winbind
but have one problem. My user's home directories are in the format
of /home/user/<$first letter>/<$second letter>/<$username> (/home/user/
d/h/dhaknes). Looking at the template homedir it doesn't appear that
I can use this format. Is there away to...

Samba 3.0 + LDAP userPassword -> sambaNTPassword manual sync?
First, the software:
Samba 3.0.0

This may be more of a question for the OpenLDAP mailing list.. but does
anyone know of a method (perhaps using slappasswd?) to hand-sync userPassword
attributes to sambaNTPassword attributes?
Deploying Samba 3.0 as pdc pretty soon, used Migration Tools on the mail
server soon,...

Fwd: Re: Re: Cannot add/modify ACL through windows client
...ou sure that there is a uid/gid mapping for your samba users on
your server. For instance, if you type "id myusername" or "getent
passwd", do you get a uid?
If not, you should check if your /etc/nsswitch.conf configuration is ok.
If you don't use winbind, you should have nssldap configured.
Cheers,
Denis

openldap - samba
I am having a problem getting users that were added in smbldap-useradd to be
able to login.
After I add them they are visible, but you can see I get this error -
pdb_get_group_sid:

I believe that this has something to do with nss_ldap. because doing a
getent passwd, it doesn't display any smb info.
Any debugging info or help would be amazing, I'm

Samba and W2K AD
Hello All,
Your typical problem....I am trying to configure Samba-3.0.2-6.3E
on RedHat Linux. I have spent days trying to get this working. What I
would like to do is provide the ability to connect to Samba shares from
Windows, more specific, WinXP. What I want to avoid is having to manage
user accounts on both the Windows or AD side and the Unix side, thus

Create machine account samba 3 - can I delete machine in /etc/passwd ( I use ldap backend ) ?
Hi,
The idea is to avoid to have machines accounts in /etc/passwd
and store all on the ldap.
I must have a machine account in /etc/passwd ( normal way ) to
create the account with pdbedit -a -m machine_account.
In fact once it is created , I can delete the account in the
localmachine and machine can connect without any problems. ( the account
stay only in the ldap ). I 've done it.

SID <-> UID mappings
...is logically much
much more simpler than having conversion algorithms and using tables and stuff
like that. The reason why everything works this way is that we have both unix
and windows servers and desktops and each share the same users. The users are
really stored on a windows server, but we use nssldap and ad4unix to manually
give an UID to users that require unix access.
The point is that I don't need winbindd to do anything, but it seems like I
have to run it to get AD to work.
