xdelta files for security patches
Has xdelta (in ports under misc/xdelta) ever been considered as a means of
delivering binary patches for security updates?
It seems to be a pretty neat.

unexpected softupdate inconsistency
Hi there,
System is FreeBSD 4.9 Stable
Had a problem during a portupgrade that when portupgrade did some
cleaning a directory could not be deleted because it were not empty.
However, it was empty. rm -rf didn't help either.
Because I didn't know what to do I decided to boot.
At system startup fsck was started which produced the message: unexpected
softupdate inconsistency and also that

5-STABLE softupdates issue?
Greetings,
out of fun and to investigate claims about alleged bgfsck resource
hogging (which I could not reproduce) posted to
news:de.comp.os.unix.bsd, I pressed the reset button on a live FreeBSD
5-STABLE system.
Upon reboot, fsck -p complained about an unexpected softupdates
inconsistency on the / file system and put me into single user mode, the
manual fsck / then asked me to agree to

Possible security hole in racoon verified on FreeBSD using racoon-20030711
Hi,
while testing racoon on Linux (based on the ported ipsec-tools) the
following issue appeared:
Racoon did not verify the RSA Signatures during Phase 1 in either main
or aggressive mode.
Authentication was possible using a correct certificate and a wrong
private key.
I have verified the below problem using racoon-20030711 on FreeBSD 4.9. I will test
it using the SNAP Kit but suspect it to be

Cookie-analyzer (antispyware) tool for FreeBSD?
Is anybody aware of existing software that searches the cookiejars of
popular browsers available for FreeBSD for known tracking cookies as
popular antispyware tools for Windows do?
Cheers,

pgp status
Dear all!
I'd like to know if something
changed for pgp263i on amd64.
In ports, archs recommended are
i386 and alpha.
Has someone used gpg-idea port
(with idea and rsa) to circum-
vent pgp <-> gpg missmetch?
Best regards

Way to ignore portaudit results?
Hello,
The mysql40-client port currently reports a security

KDE 3.1.3 has been released.
...ieve, however, that the gcc-3.2.1-built packages for 5-CURRENT should work
fine on up to date 5-CURRENT systems as well.
Thanks to all users, committers, pr-submitters & mailing list participants and
of course KDE developers for making this release possible.

who broke keyboards again?
I have a client that has several dell machines, when he boots without
a keyboard he gets:
atkbdc0: <Keyboard controller (i8042)> at port 0x60,0x64 on isa0
but no:
atkbd0: <AT Keyboard> flags 0x1 irq 1 on atkbdc0
kbd0 at atkbd0
This used to work, then was broken by someone trying to "do the right
thing".
We need the keyboards to be hot swappable. I recommend that

Tracking 4-stable rather than 4.8-stable
Hi,
I would like to follow 4-stable on my FreeBSD box, and i can't fetch
binaries from /stand/sysinstall. Can anyone help me?
Here is how i did:
1) I installed 4.8-RELEASE from CD,
2) I used cvsup to upgrade. For this i used the stable-supfile as shown
in the Handbook.
=> My OS version as shown by 'uname -a' and '/stand/sysinstall' is
"4.8-STABLE".

New entropy source proposal.
Hi.
I've been playing a bit with "use sound card as an entropy source" idea.
This simple program does what I wanted:
http://people.freebsd.org/~pjd/misc/sndrand.tbz
The program is very simple, it should be run with two arguments:
% sndtest /dev/dspW 1048576 > rand.data
This command will generate 1MB of random data.
With my sound card:
pcm0: <Intel ICH3 (82801CA)>
