[FYI] skype-2.0.0.72.nosrc.rpm
Greetings!
I have been using statically linked skype for a while, but found it
uncofortable to install it in contraversion of rpm db, so I decided to
package it. You can get nosrc.rpm here:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/4043330/skype-2.0.0.72-1.nosrc.rpm
You can rebuild it in usual way, like that:
Install rpmbuild (if it's not installed yet):
sudo yum install rpmbuild
As an ordinary user, not root, create a directory tree based on ~/rpmbuild:
cd
mkdir -p rpmbuild/{BUILD,RPM...

Testing / Coding methodologies?
I''ve been having great "fun" testing the new (Puppetised) build
end-to-end for several days now. The majority of the fun has been
coming from vendor packages (no names mentioned), typically with
conflicting permissions on files, or perhaps different home directories,
UIDs for the app users so it matters in which order you do things in.
My current methodology is to go through

Setting up Tomcat as a service under CentOS 4?
I've found about a dozen different ways to skin this cat (no pun
intended). Everything from creating a script in /etc/init.d/ to using
jsvc. I was hoping someone out there, those of you out there who run
Tomcat in this manner, how did *you* set this up? I can't seem to get it
right. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Or even direction to an
authoritative document.

Sun Java module for RedHat
Hi.
I googled for this thoroughly but couldn''t find any module that
actually worked.
Is there any good puppet module or manifest for installing Sun JDK?
Thanks.

Installing Java on Centos
Hello,
I have recently tried installing Java on Centos 6.4 and have found that the
wiki tutorial for this subject is quite outdated (the proposed method
doesn't work on the new version as the spec file is outdated and there is
no need to rebuild the rpm with nosrc file anymore). I would like to post a
tutorial on installing Java on Centos that would be more up-to-date and
referring to the newer available versions of both Centos and Java.
Regards,
Olga

Oracle instantclient on CentOS 4.4 with DBD::Oracle
...ntOS 4.4.
I have been having several issues with getting the RPMs from Oracle's site
working with DBD::Oracle. I can get the oracle instant client to install
without issue. But I cannot compile/install DBD::Oracle using cpan or
cpan2rpm.
I found http://freshrpms.net/docs/oracle/ which has a nosrc rpm for the
oracle instant client but I cannot find the ZIP files that are referenced
in the SPEC file as Oracle has released a new version.
When I try to build perl-DBD-Oracle-1.16-4.el4.src.rpm from that page it
errors out...When I try to install perl-DBD-Oracle-1.16-4.el4.i386.rpm it

Java
Hi everyone,
I'm a newbie to centos and having trouble upgrading java's jdk1.4 to jdk1.5.
I assume I have to get the jdk from jpackage, but I'm having trouble
locating it, let alone finding any instructions on how to upgrade. Much
appreciated if anyone can help. Thanks!

2.6.9-42.ELsmp kernel and 3ware 9550 tools
I have the latest kernel with the drivers for my 3ware 9550SX built in.
Where
can I find the tools and monitoring apps for this card? Are there rpms
hiding
somewhere, or do I need to build it from source?

modestly priced laptop for C7
...require 3rd party drivers
with proprietary firmware to get the wifi working, which can be a pain
in the neck when point release update happens (e.g. 7.3 to 7.4) because
you then have to rebuild the RPM in the new point release or the driver
won't work, and often that means downloading a new nosrc.rpm - which may
not immediately be available.
Somewhere there's a list of wifi hardware that works out of the box with
the Linux kernel, whatever brand you buy I would recommend the wifi
device is on that list.

Java Installation HowTo kickoff (JDK 1.4.2, 1.5 and 1.6)
...oc?id=dfd4fncx_32gbthmp
Give me feedback, please.
The IBM JDK is the "easiest" on 1.4.2 and 1.5 versions.
The Sun JDK 1.6 is probably the most optimized (and the only
1.6implementation by now), but doesn't integrate so good like IBM
JDK's
generated RPMs.
The BEA's JPackage nosrcs are so much out-of-date. Would there be a reason
for JPackage's people forgetting about BEA JRockit? I would like to offer an
updated process to install BEA JRockit via RPM, but it seems impracticable
now. Maybe I'm completely wrong - it seems like JRockit R27.1.0 installation
is graphical...

[ANNOUNCE] Areca SATA RAID drivers for CentOS 4.0

2.6.12-rc1-mm3 kernel, and built it for all variations of the
i586/i686/x86_64 2.6.9-5.0.5.EL CentOS 4.0 kernels.
I've also updated the driver disk so it now has the same kernel driver,
but built for all of the i586/i686/x86_64 2.6.9-5.0.3.EL kernels used on
the installer. There is also a nosrc RPM for the various utilities Areca
offer, but you'll have to build that one yourself as I don't know what
license they're released under.
As before, you can get them from here:
http://www.bodgit-n-scarper.com/code.html#centos
I only have an x86_64 machine with an Areca card, so if a...
