reasonable effort) carry out the same things using R and some of
its contributed packages.
Although we do have Splus (Windows and Unix), we definitely prefer
to use R whenever feasible (both for research and teaching).
Thanks for developing a superb computing/programming environment.

Bug in order function
...a look to this stackoverflow question:
https://stackoverflow.com/questions/39737871/r-order-method-on-multiple-columns-gives-error-argument-lengths-differ
It describes the problem well and suggests a solution.
Although it is a niche case, it's a very easy thing to fix :)

With the release of the new 2.2 kernel, this would seem
a interesting and cost-efficient way of boosting the
computational power of Intel/Linux platforms when using
R (or S-plus).
Thanks for any wise words,

order(decreasing=c(TRUE,FALSE),...)
The NEWS file for R-devel (as of 2018-11-28 r75702) says
? order(...., decreasing=c(TRUE,FALSE)) could fail in some cases.
Reported from StackOverflow via Karl Nordstr?m.
However, either I don't understand the meaning of decreasing=c(TRUE,FALSE)
or there are still problems. I thought order(x,y,decreasing=c(TRUE,FALSE)
meant to return indices, i, such that x[i] was non-increasing and that ties
among the x's would be broken by y in non-decreasing order....

NetBIOS name = FOO in smb.conf.
Not always, but sometimes I have to start smbd 2 or 3 times.
It always fails there.
Any reason why 2.0.7pre2 would do this, and 2.0.6 (from rpm)
never did?

network connection crashes
Since I get any response I try again -- hoping that somebody
have ANY idea!
A network with a RedHat 6.0 linux server and samba 2.0.6 and
Windows 95 clients:
When I for example copy large (binary?) files from
local drives to one of my Samba shares I VERY often
experience that the network connection to the
Win95 machine crashes. The lovely Windows Blue-Screen
message about an exception appears,
