A few more Solaris 7 bugs in 1.2.3pre2
These are all in the port of 1.2.3pre2: - configure accepts --includedir, but doesn't seem to pass it on to the Makefile. You have to edit the Makefile manually if you have include files anywhere but /usr/include. Which is a problem because... - The Makefile doesn't include /usr/local/include by default, which is where zlib installs itself by default. Probably oughta be in there.

CentOS 4.5: Automounted USB disks eventually stop appearing on desktop
..."eject" the filesystem, etc. Eventually, though, for no obvious reason, this stops working and I no longer get an icon when I insert a USB device. The automount is still happening; I can still navigate to the device under /media with Nautilus, and I can still umount it from a shell as a nonprivileged user. What process is supposed to be noticing the new mount and adding the icon? Any clues as to why it would stop doing so?

problem with NOTIFYCMD
After some testing, I notice that my NOTIFYCMD script seems to work if I call it as user 'john' (that's me) but if I call it as 'root' it does not work. So is there a permissions issue ? I have permission on the file set to 755. I see there is a variable in upsmon.conf called RUN_AS_USER. I do not have this defined. Does this variable need to be defined ? I presume that if

[Bug 355] New: No last login message with PrivSep under AIX
...unix-dev at mindrot.org ReportedBy: Heinrich.Mislik at univie.ac.at When a user connects to 3.4p1 on AIX with privilege separation on, no last login message is displayed. It seems, that the message is retrieved by a call to loginsuccess() as root, the output of the message is done in the nonprivileged child. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are the assignee for the bug, or are watching the assignee.

Rsync ownership/group/permission on Windows and Linux question
Hi, all, I'd like to know if there is a way to set the ownership/group/permission when you are transfering files from a Windows clients to a Linux rsync server. I've tried following configurations, and none of them work. rsync -av --owner=test -g MyFolder 192.168.100.1::backup/test rsync -av --owner=500 -g MyFolder --numeric-ids 192.168.100.1::backup/test (500 is numeric id for user

Requirement for sshd account since 4.4p1
Hi, there's a change made to 4.4p1, which gave some irritation on the Cygwin mailing list. It's a change from 20060907: - (djm) [sshd.c auth.c] Set up fakepw() with privsep uid/gid, so it can be used to drop privilege to; fixes Solaris GSSAPI crash reported by Magnus Abrante; suggestion and feedback dtucker@ NB. this change will require that the privilege separation user must

ntpdate issues?
Hi, I''m trying to run ntpdate from domain zero and getting weird results. This used to work (prior to using xen). Is this related to xen at all or an entirely unrelated issue? Queries seem to work: # ntpdate -q time-b.nist.gov Looking for host time-b.nist.gov and service ntp host found : time-b.nist.gov server 129.6.15.29, stratum 1, offset 41.820087, delay 0.17027 17

time server = yes
I want my XP clients to update their clocks from my samba server. I have time server = yes in smb.conf, and running ntpd on the server, but my clients aren't updating their clocks. I tried running the command manually logged in as a domain user: net time /setsntp:10.8.2.3 but it just says "System error 5 has occurred. Access is denied". Any ideas?

Multithreading and DB access in Rails
I just tried writing some controllers, etc. that would allow me to start and monitor background tasks running in new (Ruby) threads, with the idea that I''d eventually manage long-running indexing processes that way. I can kick off such threads OK (by using Thread.new in a routine called by a controller), but it seems like Rails gets huffy if those background tasks and the ordinary
