Oracle control file on OCFS2 without datavolume, nointr
We had someone from Oracle support move one of the database control files on an OCFS2 volume that's not mounted with datavolume, nointr (he moved it to /opt/oracle). At that time I didn't realize the problem. We'll move the control file to a volume that's mounted with datavolume, nointr options. The question is: how bad is it? We are experiencing some serious problems, precisely, the OCFS2 volumes aren't acces...

Filesystem Block Size w// DB_BLOCK_SIZE
Hello All, We're hosting DB1 and DB2 with db_block_size set to 8K, 16K respectively File system creation is done with mkfs.ocfs2 -b 4K -C 32K -N 4 -L LABLE /dev/mapper/xxxx Mount is done with: ocfs2 _netdev,datavolume,nointr 0 0 I'd like to know if we can separate most of the tablespaces on different LUNs, even if they're on the same disk group sometimes, is it possible to gain better performance? Is the impact limited to the time of creating the tablespaces only (assuming they're pre-sized properly)?...

kernel: nfs: RPC call returned error 88
...error 88 The storage being mounted is netapp. We don't see any errors/issues on the storage itself or the switches this client is connecting thru. The NFS network is a 2-interface ( 2 x 1Gb UTP) bond which shows no errors of any kind. We are mounting with the following mount options: rw,noac, nointr,bg,hard, timeo= 600,wsize=32768,rsize=32768,nfsvers=3,tcp This problem sometimes hits the OCR votedisk shares and causes the instance to crash. These systems were upgraded to 5.6 back in January. Currently running 2.6.32-300.4.1. Thanks for any info,

df & du - that old chestnut
...orted differences between df & du and that sort of makes sense (maybe I'm missing something). The filesystem was created with a Blocksize and Clustersize of 4Kb and is mounted with the following parameters: /dev/mapper/eva_mpio_myserver07_08_oracle_bkup0 /data/orabackup ocfs2 _netdev,nointr,defaults 0 0 We have a RMAN retention policy of 3 days so backups older than that do get deleted. As a test I did a df & du of this filesystem and then deleted (via RMAN) the oldest backup, this file was 17Gb in size, after which I again did a du & df. These both reported th...

Intermittent NFS problems with NetApp server

Here is its map entry: epd -rw,nointr,rsize=32768,wsize=32768 XXXXXX:/epd When this is happening, other users can successfully access that directory on the server. The directory is actually mounted correctly, and unmounting doesn't fix the issue. Furthermore, the same user that is being denied access, can successfully acce...

[PATCH libguestfs v3] lib: Handle slow USB devices more gracefully.
Libvirt has a fixed 15 second timeout for qemu to exit. If qemu is writing to a slow USB key, it can hang (in D state) for much longer than this - many minutes usually. The solution is to check specifically for the libvirt EBUSY error when this happens, and retry the virDomainDestroyFlags operation (indefinitely). See also the description here:
