cifs module and nocase option
...part. Solutions i
found are:
1) use 'unix extensions = no' in smb.conf
2) execute 'echo 0 > /proc/fs/cifs/LinuxExtensionsEnabled' in the cifs client
Both solutions are not perfect for me as i lost unix extensions. Only
case insentitivity is required for me.
I then found the 'nocase' option in cifs kernel module ('Request case
insensitive path name matching' as said in the README), but it does
not look to work: i have the same problems as reported here:
https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4614
Is there a way to have case insensitivity for cifs client ?
Is t...

Compact Indicator Matrices
An indicator matrix is a binary matrix with orthogonal columns whose
rows sum to 1. A row of this matrix could be [0 1 0 0]. My problem is
to group the similar rows (profiles) so that to create a compact form
of the matrix.
Is there an R function that deals with this problem or do I have to
write it from scratch?
Thanks,

automating smbclient tasks
Ladies and Gents,
My project requires me to share IIS log files with my Linux box.
The outcome of this solution is using Webalizer instead of horrid
Webtrends. I have testing most of this procedure, Webalizer does great
with the combined log files (using mergelog). In any case, I need to
script the download of the files from one server to another. I use
something of the following to connect

Unwanted case sensitivity
...sted this on IRC.
I have a linux host running stock RHEL 5.4 Samba 3.0.33-3.15. The host acts
both as a Samba server and does a CIFS mount of that same share. The
reason for doing this is so that programs running on the Linux host have
the same case insensitive view as the Windows clients.
I have nocase set in the relevant line in /etc/fstab
I have case sensitive = No set in the smb.conf.
Still I get case sensitive responses though odd ones.
Example:
The native Linux directory that is share is named /srv/XXXX.
There would be a directory /srv/XXXX/AAAbbb which contains
a file Fred.txt.

This action logs the event, dumps the malicious traffic in tcpdump
format and drops the packet. Below is an example of rule against a type
of buffer overflow attempt against DNS servers:

udp dst(53)
udp nocase(|41cd 80c7 062f 6269 6ec7 4604 2f73 6800 89f0 83c0 0889 4608|)

In this case, due to the use of pipe characters (|), HLBR will check
the traffic for the hexadecimal sequence given as an attack signature.
HLBR lets you use rules f...

server not using utf8-mode with Synology client
...wever compiling all of samba is near impossible due to all the missing
libraries on that system.
(Even getting libwbclient proves to be quite a hassle).
This is the full line the device uses:
-o
soft,user=WORKGROUP\guest,pass=,iocharset=utf8,uid=1024,gid=100,nounix,file_mode=0777,dir_mode=0777,nocase
But only "nounix" was necessary here in this sense. However this
apparently disables unix-extensions and so I do not see any longer the
ownership of files now.
So basically with unix-extensions disabled, utf8 conversion fails to
work???

linux-to-linux samba weird problem
...nibasic names the files? It uses a single name,
say "myisam". The file containing the data records is named in lower case
(myisam); the file containing the c-tree index(es) is named in upper case
(MYISAM). I specified 'case sensitive = yes' in smb.conf and did not specify
'nocase' in the CIFS mount. Is it possible CIFS or Samba (or both) are
inadvertently performing a case insensitive compare? Or otherwise not
differentiating between the two?
Thanks!
