How to mount ext3 root partition with noatime and ro options at boot-time
Hi all,
I was trying to mount root-partition which is ext3 partition with
noatime and ro option. I included "ro" in the kernel command line But for
mounting it with "noatime" option when I searched for some solution I came
across a patch
http://lkml.org/lkml/2007/8/5/38
But after applying this patch and including option "noati...

atime, relatime query
Greetings,
I am aware that mounting filesystems with noatime option greatly
increases speed.
I have tried to follow discussion on the pros and cons of using noatime.
I have however not been able to mount with the option relatime in centos 5.2.
But in a production db server, which is backed up by HP DP, is it
advisable to mount with noatime?
Anybody care...

smbmount ignores noatime
When mounting a Windows share within Linux the noatime option seems to
be ignored. I use the following command
mount -tsmbfs -ousername=user,noatime //192.168.0.12/eclipse /mnt/tmp
Each cat /mnt/tmp/testfile updates the last access time regardless if
noatime specified or not.
I'm running smbmount v2.0.7 on a old Suse production system, but I coul...

Drive activity every 30sec
I have a Centos installed on a Hitachi 2.5" drive that shuts off really
quickly, it seems.
So every 30 sec, the drive makes the sound of an access activity. I
have looked trying to find what might be being updated. Swap drive
usage is 0 bytes. No activity in /var/log. What might it be and can I
do anything to lessen the drive access (improve battery life)?

noatime effect
I know that with noatime attribute,
http://tldp.org/LDP/solrhe/Securing-Optimizing-Linux-RH-Edition-v1.3/chap6sec73.html,
it will have a performance gain. I want to know how I can figure out
how much the kernel is waiting its time without noatime. Is the
possible?

Option to not update Atime on filesystems not mounted noatime
Hi
I have a single filesystem i don't mount noatime because mutt would work
very good otherwise.
Today, in a discussion about mkisofs, i learned that Linux since 2.6.8
supports "O_NOATIME" as an option to open. (see "man 2 open")
So how comes that rsync doesn't do that and/or there is no option to
switch on that behaviou...

Mount options and NFS: just checking...

Q3. Which of the filestores should I mount with the "noatime" option?
(I understand that for the filer-based NFS mounts this can be
done on the
filer, as the option isn't available with "mount" for NFS-monted
filestores.)
Q4. Any other options to use/miss out?
Currently my understanding from the list and the NFS pag...

little mount question
...hile playing with the mount type if there is a way to
just add options to mountpoint without touching anything else.
For exemple :
# prevent kernel bug
mount { proc:
options => [ ''noexec'',''nosuid'']
}
or
mount { var:
options => [ ''noatime'',''usrquota'']
}
as i want to add and not replace, is something like
mount { var:
options => [ ''noatime'',''usrquota''] + mount[var].options
}
possible ? what if there is duplicate like if /var allready has noatime ?
