Which email clients support SMTP/IMAP via STDIN&STDOUT of proxy command?
Which email clients support SMTP/IMAP via STDIN&STDOUT of proxy command? I would like to be able to use local and remove dovecot to access maildir *without* running dovecot daemons. -- [pl>en: Andrew] Andrzej Adam Filip : anfi at onet.eu If the future navigation system [for interactive networked services on the NII] looks like something from Microsoft, it will never work. -- Chairman

gnus/dovecot open transactions panic
...n_processes_count: 4 login_max_processes_count: 16 max_mail_processes: 32 first_valid_uid: 128 mail_location: maildir:~/IMAP I have 162 mailboxes polled by gnus on this dovecot instance. I get the panic on various mailboxes and I can't see a pattern. I do get Checking new news... nnimap-send-command: SIGPIPE raised on process *nnimap*; closed it From gnus. I then look at the listed one in the panic, and *imap-log* From gnus. This just may be an artifact of pipelining, but the panic-list mbox has 30 more after it that were sent, as in: 19:35:43 506 EXAMINE "mbox.named-in...

The config for the SSL, from /etc/dov...

Support of client specific flags?
Gnus use a lot of custom flags to represent the messages state wrt. Gnus. How well are these flags supported in dovecot? How fast are access to them? (Ie. will dovecot have to open the message and parse the headers) Are they supported when using imapsync to transfer messages from a different IMAP server? (I guess I'll find out soon, because I'm using imapsync to transfer messages

cyrus2courier or cyrus2maildir.py, which to choose?
What's the best utility to use to convert mail folders from a cyrus 2.2.13-10, on a debian 4.0 Etch system, to folders that can be used by dovecot? The http://wiki.dovecot.org/Migration/Cyrus page isn't too clear on what's the difference. cyrus2courier says "It should be able to preserve message UIDs, flags and 26 first keywords." cyrus2maildir.py says "preserves

needing UNSELECT to notice new mail?
...ges, fails to notice new mail. Notably, gnus does not do an UNSELECT or CLOSE when it is done with a group. So basically the following sequence of commands SELECT "INBOX" blah blah EXPUNGE STATUS "INBOX" shows no unseen but really there is one With (setq nnimap-need-unselect-to-notice-new-mail t) gnus will do UNSELECT before STATUS, and then things work fine. Another gnus user reports what seems like the same problem with Courier IMAP. So, is dovecot complying with the IMAP spec here? Is there some notion of a transaction bracketed by SELECT/{UNSELECT...

Moving from cyrus to dovecot (a story)
...t not the rest of cyrus 2.2, which blocked dovecot from starting after the install - I stopped cyrus22 and uninstalled all of the cyrus22 packages - I rsync'd the maildir folders from the Ubuntu box to the old mail server - I started dovecot - I use Gnus as my MUA. I had removed all nnimap groups related to the home server in Gnus, and resubscribed them. All folders came up in the state I had left them. Gnus stores article state on the server as custom marks, and imapsync had preserved the custom flags. I unsubscribed the groups to avoid article caching confusion, beca...

Cyrus MailDir to Dovecot mbox
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Anyone out there know of a tool that can convert a Cyrus MailDir format to Dovecot mbox? I have a user that I need to move over from a mail server running cyrus using MailDir format. At first I told him to setup second account with Thunderbird to our mail server and then use Thunderbird to move the messages over. But he has over 100K messages so

offlineimap with dovecot and sieve
I have a dumb question, is it possible to use this combination: Synchronising a remote IMAP-server and a local dovecot-IMAP-server by offlineimap (with both types = IMAP), which works very well. But it seems, that my sieve-scripts on the local dovecot server are not recognised by this combination. Is there a good debugging way for this? -- Dieter Faulbaum Elektronenspeicherring BESSY II
